News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Queerview television guide for the weekend of June 27

Friday

The View (ABC) Check local listings
Gay icon Bette Midler joins the ladies at the View table. She'll probably be talking about her big new Vegas show, and hopefully she'll also give us a preview of the show and perform a bit.

GLAAD Media Awards (Bravo) 7:00 PM EDT
Combining the four ceremonies in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Miami, GLAAD's annual awards for gay representation in mainstream media makes its move to Bravo. With appearances including the likes of Kathy Griffin and her mother, Maggie, this ceremony sounds like it'll be a lively affair.

Degrassi: The Ultimate Party (The N) 8:00 PM EDT
I'm not sure what's up with this new five-minute Degrassi episode, except that it involves a party at Marco's place where a game of strip poker occurs.

Brokeback Mountain (Bravo) 9:00 PM EDT
The landmark gay romance makes its basic cable debut tonight. While I expect most Queerview readers have already seen a version of the film not edited for basic cable, I'm pretty happy to see a gay film going into the rotation in such a mainstream venue. I wouldn't mind if Brokeback became that movie that's constantly airing on Bravo much like Office Space is to Comedy Central...

Saturday

Groomer Has It (Animal Planet) 9:00 PM EDT
It's the season finale of Animal Planet's first attempt at the reality competition show and, uhm, it's certainly been an interesting run, hasn't it? There's one gay contestant left in the game, Jonathan, who looks likely to win considering that his competition is Artist, one of those "They're only keeping him for the drama" types. What have you thought of the show? Would you come back for a second season?

Groomer Has It's remaining gay contestant, Jonathan

The Graham Norton Show (BBC America) 10:00 PM EDT
Alicia Silverstone and sharp-tongued comedienne Joan Rivers are Graham's guests this week. Rivers was recently in the news for swearing on another British talk show and it sounds like that'll provide some fodder for Graham.

Sunday

Design Star (HGTV) 9:00 PM EDT
This week has the HGTV hopefuls trying to decorate a room with only materials they can find at a craft shop. After seeing them make a room painted black look good last week, I can't wait to see what gay contestants Matt and Michael come up with this time.

    Groomer

I've rather enjoyed Groomer Has It. I've liked Artist's personality since the beginning. I actually certainly hope Jonathan does NOT win - he's an arrogant, money-grubbing jerk (or at least is edited that way . . .)

    I love...

I love Animal Planet to death, but i can't believe they decided to base a show on grooming animals...

this isn't like cutting hair or making an outfit....i mean, you cant be that creative when grooming an animal, ya know? eh
