A Look Back at Jon Stewart's Greatest Gay Moments
May 10, 2005
Great Moments in Punditry as Read by Children (1) It’s hard, but amusing, to imagine the scene in The Daily Show writers’ room that gave birth to this concept. They must have been watching Hardball, when host Chris Matthews tried to get Jerry Falwell to grasp the complete stupidity of his belief that homosexuals “choose” to be gay and can, and should, “choose” not to be. “Hey! Let’s get the transcript off the CNN website and have, you know, kids read it!” That might not sound like genius to you, but turns out, it was. And thus, “Great Moments in Punditry as Read by Children” was born. In this one, “Matthews” asks “Falwell” if he chose to be heterosexual or if he felt an attraction to women. And sadly, the real Falwell was not less mystified by the question.
In this installment of the “Great Moments” series, “Chris Matthews” asks “Jerry Falwell” how old he was when he chose to be heterosexual. He says he did, and everyone does, but he didn’t. “I didn’t decide. I never had to decide.” Oh, “Jerry.”
Got Balls? All About SportsFeb 27, 2007 If skewering politicians and the political system is what the Stewart does best, it has to be said that what he does worst is adversarial interviews. He only shines when there’s a friendly face across the desk, and Stewart and former NBA star John Amaechi couldn’t be friendlier if Stewart got in his lap. Which at one point looked like he might. And it’s definitely the most hard-hitting look ever at what being British in the NBA is like. Maybe Stewart can do the tough interviews.
There was no shortage of outraged commentary on the Super Bowl Snickers ads, particularly about the “alternate ending” where the two macho guys bash each other for inadvertently touching lips over a shared candy bar. However, there’s something to be said for Stewart screaming, “He almost killed that guy because their lips accidentally touched, ha ha ha ha ha…” while pounding on his anchor desk, and then concluding, “So the groups protesting that one have a point.” Ya think?
