The Best Gay TV Preview Ever!

The Visible Vote ’08 Election Special

What is it about? The Presidential battle between Barack Obama and John McCain.

Who’s gay?
Certainly not the candidates! But one is definitely more pro-gay than the other and the analysts covering the show are and will bring a much-needed GLBT perspective to the topic.

When does it air? On Logo at a time to be determined.

Why should you watch? The importance of Presidential elections for GLBT rights can’t be overstated and this year’s is no different. The winner will likely appoint Supreme Court justices, and could be the first president to either sign or veto legislation recognizing same-sex relationships. And gay viewers should know exactly where each candidate stands on the issues.

Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World

What’s it about? Do I really have to explain? Fine. Rick and Steve are a gay couple living in West Lahunga Beach with their dysfunctional friends. And they're not terribly happy.

When does it air? Tuesdays at 10 PM on Logo.

Why should you watch? Because Legos were never so gay or funny. Starring Alan Cumming, Wilson Cruz, Peter Paige and Lorna Luft, this is definitely Logo’s best show.

Thank you

to Michael & everybody at Afterelton for all your hard work.:)I bookmarked this article and will be using it as the guide for viewing.

btw,one tiny thing that I`ve been wondering for a while, guess I`ll just post it here.Is it possible that something happened to the actor who played Gay Joe in Grey`s Anatomy,or maybe he didn`t want to come back to play this character any more? The reason I ask this is-it`s very clear that during S4 the characters are still referring to the bar as"Joe`s place"or something, but Joe was nowhere insight during the whole season. When the scenes were in the bar,the camera would always focusing on the doctors and keeping away from who`s inside the bar(at least that`s what I remembered). If the actor is available why wouldn`t just show that he was actually there, you know,to make the show generally gay-inclusive(as some other shows did)?

thanks

Thanks for this! I really enjoyed reading through it, and you've convinced me that True Blood is worth a look. Also, awesome inclusion of Pushing Daisies. That show needs as much love as is humanly possible!

Thank you

Thanks for this as well, one question. The New Adventures of Old Christine you said the brother came out last season, what episode was that I must have missed that.
Lyle Masaki's picture

That was "Undercover Brother"

With Charles Esten (whose name is, for some reason, stuck in my head) playing the brother.
AbqGWM's picture

Oh okay

Charles EstenIt wasn't Christine's brother Matthew that came out in that episode it was Richard's brother Joe, played by Charles Esten, who came out after he kissed Christine.

30 Rock

Doesn't the show have another gay chracter? One of the male writers fell in love with the coffee boy.

He`s only "Gay for Jamie" ;)

He`s only "Gay for Jamie" ;) So that`s more like a one episode thing.

OK, I'll Admit It

I'm besotted with Gossip Girl! Ugly Betty is obviously the gayest show on the tube but for subtext alone GG lands in the number two spot. I'm crazy about Ed Westwick. He reminds me of a sleazebucket I went to college with went so far as to actually marry his fag-hag. Their wedding was a scream. But then I shouldn't be giving a show like this ideas, should I?

Connor Paolo is WAY cute.

Gossip Girl is my favorite

I'm loving seeing Nate become a male prostitute. I wish it were a guy he's sleeping with for money, but at least we'll get to see him doin' it. And yes on Connor Paolo. I looked him up on tv.com the first time he was on L&O. I wonder what color his hair is, though.

Too bad

logo and some other channels are only on US television. Some of these look interesting, but not on Canadian stations.

The Lair

Is that season 2 of The Lair? Or just repeats of season 1? And while we're on the subject of so-bad-they're-great-supernatural-gay-soaps, do you have any inside info on the 4th season of Dante's Cove?

Question

So I have been wondering, I know Joe is gay but rarely seen (probably because I think I have seen him on Men in Trees but haven't watched it for quite a while), but are we just reporting gay male relationships? At the end of last season, it was kinda clear that Erica Han and Caley Torrez were deffinitely heading towards a relationship. Is this not true?
Michael Jensen's picture

We leave almost all of the lesbian coverage

to our sister site, AfterEllen.com. I mentioned a couple of lesbian storylines, but that is definitely not our focus at AfterElton!
Sethanel's picture

Ahh,

I kinda figured but the other mentioned lesbian storylines threw me off. Grey's seems to get a bad rap for that.

Correction (and tiny complaint)...

Great work, Michael! Just wanted to add for those of us hanging on with the (now mostly unfunny) Simpsons that Marge's sister, Patty, came out (and almost married a woman) and it was implied that Mr. Largo (the band teacher that kicks Lisa out in the opening credits) was having an affair with Smithers. Now the complaint: I'd rather the two gay characters on Sarah Silverman not be referred to as "unusual" as there are a surprising number of gay geek/gamer/slackers out here if one were to look beyond the hairless, speedo sea. I think it's pretty great that, besides having their sexuality ignored, there's really nothing stereotypically "gay" about them (but they are, in fact, gay characters and they do represent real gays.)

I simply meant unusual for television. I actually

suspect Brian and Steve represent more gay men than that. And I think they are great. I didn't mean to imply they are outside the mainstream or anything like that.
geekluve's picture

HERE HERE!!!

THANK YOU! i am one of those gay slacker geeks and we are ALL unacknowledged. i already love sarah silverman and watch just because she's so hilarious but the gay geek friends are awesome! we need more REAL gay characters than all the contrived over quaffed model types, overdone fashionistas, and showtune queens.

Jensen and the Geek

Thank you, Geekluve! Notice my post got a defensive post from the ever-geeky-himself (and quite delightful) Jensen but not a "thanks for the catch!" (about the Simpsons) like that pretty boy earlier in this comment section AND the Simpsons section of the article wasn't even updated to include my astute--and quite geeky--catch about his Simpsons omission. I forgive you, Michael. I...forgive...you.
Michael Jensen's picture

Defensive! Trust me, you haven't seen me get

defensive. Just ask poor Brent about that! LOL. (No need to comment, Brent! Or I'll come and thwack you.)

While I do try to read and respond to as many comments and as in depth as possible, I occasionally miss things. Hey, harassing NBC Sports takes a lot of time! ;-) As for The Simpsons, didn't mention Marge's sister because she's a lesbian. And as for Mr. Largo, I tried to restrict the coverage to more substantial gay characters. The damned article was already 16 pages long! LOL.

Worst. Preview. Ever!

Really, couldn't you find more shows with no (or marginal) gay content to mention, to spread the clicks out even more? You could have easily hit 30 clicks, dude! And really, why should we care? We shouldn't, obviously. I'd say you were sucking up or getting paid off, but unless AE pays you by the clicks, I'd have to admit you just don't know what gay content is, do you?

I guess

if I didn't care about gay content in entertainment, I wouldn't come to this site at all.  That's always an option, Jake.

Another reason to watch Eli Stone

Great write up. Eli Stone was a surprise to me -- I watched the first episode on a dare because the premise sounded so absurd. But I got hooked almost immediately by the writing and characters, including the openly gay Victor Garber who plays the senior partner in Eli's law firm and the father of his former fiancee. It's a very entertaining and engaging show with a strong gay sensibility.

I really don't think

we need to be celebrating people who have sex in the bushes like animals.  George Michael is an embarassment to the community.  He even told the cops when he was caught, "you don't understand, this is what we do."  (Meaning gay people).  I wish he would go far, far, away.

You should see this one

Distingué Traces's picture

That video is the most hypocritical thing he ever did.

That's right, George Michael. Your decades of secrecy were ended by a bust in a public restroom not because you're a pathetic addict, but because you're just so proud to let your freak flag fly.

No, not "distant gay traces" -- it's distingué traces!

OMG, Heath/Zack Lively was kickass awesome in Greek last night. And the ensemble especially the knee high socks was awesome.

The Jensen Genius

Nice coverage, Michael, you already know I am big fan(and fag too, I suppose). But darling, sweetie how can you write about LIPSTICK JUNGLE without mentioning the two most etherial words in the universe: ROBERT BUCKLEY,the love child of Robert Gant and Matthew McConaughey. And, how about a few props to out actor, writer, and producer, David Marshall Grant for his contribution as story editor on BROTHERS & SISTERS. He has been a flag bearer in several television and theatrical landmark events.

You beat me to it...

I was going to say isn't the only reason to even tune in for Lipstick Jungle is to see how many times they can show Robert Buckley shirtless?

Concern about The Mentalist

I will admit upfront that maybe I'm blowing it out of proportion but I was offended by a recent commercial for The Mentalist. The lead character dispels the notion that a dead man and woman were lovers because the man was obviously gay. Since the deceased male was covered with a sheet and only his feet were in view a bewildered colleague asked him how he knew. His response was something like "he had a pedicure and was wearing clear nail polish". Oh! Of course he was gay!. Cause there's nothing I'd rather do, as a gay man, than to sit at home with cotton between my toes slathering on nail polish. Ugh. Again, maybe it's just me but it seemed to me that it was playing into stereotypes AND using it as humor. Not cool.

Cinematt01

DISCLOSURE - I do enjoy a pedicure from time to time but I'm fairly sure they are now available to straight men as well.

I noticed that too.

It would have been better had he said "Sondheim CDs"
