News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

The Best Gay TV Preview Ever!

September 10th

Do Not Disturb

Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Do Not Disturb

What is it about? The “wacky” things happening to the “wacky” folks working at a hip, upscale hotel in Manhattan. In other words, it is your very standard sitcom premise.

Who’s gay?
Larry (Jesse Tyler Ferguson from The Class), the head of housekeeping. The show was also created by the out Abraham Higginbotham.

When does it air?
Wednesdays on Fox at 9:30 PM.

Why should you watch? Who said you should? The first two episodes were just dreadful and Larry comes off very stereotypically. However, Higginbotham says that Larry (based on himself) is actually something unusual for gay characters in that he is one half of a couple and dealing with the issues facing any married couple in a long-term relationship. Perhaps I’d had too much to drink, but Higginbotham seemed sincere and I’m going to give this at least four episodes before hitting the eject button. Maybe.

Shirts & Skins

What is it about? A reality show following the Rock Dogs, San Francisco’s gay basketball team.

Who’s gay? The whole team. Plus John Amaechi drops in for a couple of episodes.

When does it air? Mondays at 10 PM on Logo.

Why should you watch? You have to ask? A reality show that isn’t just about gay men, but gay men who are athletes. As much as I love Bravo, I doubt we’ll be seeing something like this over there any time soon.

What is it about? Two hot brothers battling demons.

Who’s gay? No one, dammit.

When does it air? Thursdays at 9 PM on the CW.

Why should you watch? Four words: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles. Both actors made our AfterElton.com Hot 100 so we know you are watching already. Plus, the fellas do occasionally engage in rather homoerotic banter (inspiring volumes of slash/fiction) and the show has included the occasional gay character.
