Five Reasons You Should be Watching ABC's "Flash Forward"3) It's based on the book by the very gay-friendly Robert Sawyer We've written previously about Sawyer's gay-inclusive series, The Neanderthal Parallax and Sawyer's pro-gay views. And with homophobic writers out there like Orson Scott Card and John C. Wright, I totally think we should support anything Sawyer does.
And who knows? If Flash Forward is a big enough hit, we might even see The Neanderthal Parallax make the leap from page to screen! I can totally see Michael Cudlitz as Ponter and Aaron Eckhart as his mate Adikor. 4) Janis Hawk While Flash Forward doesn't have any gay/bi male characters, it does feature an out lesbian, and a pretty kick ass one at that! Janis Hawk (Christine Woods) is one of the agents working with Agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes) to solve the mystery of the FF. Janis is a smart, tough woman having already survived being shot once. Unfortunately, her flash forward showed her pregnant, despite currently being single and not interested in kids. And as any reader of AfterEllen.com knows, the pregnant lesbian storyline is a very tired one.
That being said, Janis has already gone on a date and even had a hot kiss with a pretty smokin' babe. And come on fellows, as our recent article about why women are interested in gay men showed, the ladies are pretty darn supportive of us. Here's a chance to show some love back! 5) Do you really want NBCSucks' "Jay Leno strategy" to work?
Volumes have already been written about what NBCSucks' airing of Jay Leno five times a week at 10 PM means for scripted television. But with the failure of Kings and Southland for NBC, and the ongoing rise of reality television, the last thing fans of scripted television need is for yet another relatively intelligent, well-written and well-acted show to sink.
So let's help make Flash Forward a hit so we aren't left with nothing but an endless stream of talk shows, Bachelor/Bachelorettes and washed up celebs doing anything to extend their fifteen minutes of fame. Those are my reasons you should watch. Anyone else? Submitted by on Wed, 2009-11-25 13:01. |

I have a pervy confession to make
I had no intention of tuning in to the show until I saw that Zachary Knighton was in the cast. Having seen Zack show the full monty in a movie, I was curious if he could act with trou.
It turns out he can ... but I still prefer him without.
Isn't it against the rules
Isn't it against the rules to mention a hottie being full monty in a movie without mentioning the NAME of the movie????
Snicks is teasing us!!!
Nope!
FF
like FF but I prefer Fringe
I have to admit that I watch "FF" for Ralph. Unfortunately he hasn't taken his shirt off as much as I would like. I like the show but I find it a little slow and convoluted. There has been some interesting stuff. I was most intrigued when they found the connection with the dead crows. Overall I just don't think they have revealed enough to make me look forward to the next episode.
I love "Fringe". I love the stories and the characters. It really reminds me of the "X-Files" which was one of my favorites. It seems that the character of Olivia has replaced Mulder and Peter has replaced Scully. The way they feed the bits of information is exactly the way the "X-Files" did. I also think Joshua Jackson is pretty hot. I didn't find him that attractive on "Dawson's" but I like him now that he is older.
I love it!

I agree...
i like flashforward
Meh
I've watched every episode so far - on account of doing so with family - but I'm finding it a real chore.
Just not finding any characters to get behind; the Joseph Fiennes is the closest to sympathetic, and even he is barely communicative and/or whiny at least half the time.
The rest of the characters are just so self-absorbed and meandering - hardly anyone seems to care that millions of people just died and (so far as they now) millions more could be killed any second!
Cannot even get a freakin' plane ticket without someone whingeing, or even a modicum of support for the bizzaro leads that have 100% success rate.
I also cannot shake the feeling that absolutely everyone we see is going to end up entwined in some nonsensical Lost web too, where it turns out every one of the many characters seen is vital to events.
Janis and Evil Charlie are about the only tolerable aspects of the show at the minute.
Some problems, but I am fond of it
Hmmm...
I hate the show. I really do.I had really high hopes with Goyer at the helm, but it's just a mess of story logic.
One small example... during the flash forwards, no one acknowledges their supposed knowledge that the specific moment in time is important. The FBI boss dude is even in the restroom.
If these people know the specific date and time that the flash forwards took them to, don't you think they would at least have their pants fully up at the time it happens.
The whole time travel thing is stupid. Time Travel is only plausible in science through quantum mechanics, and even then it isn't really time travel at all.
I'll fully admit enjoying "V" 100 times more than I enjoy Flash Forward.
Sorry but you apparently missed the point
Ignore.
No apology needed...
I'm not missing the point. There obviously isn't time travel, but a similar set of circumstances apply when psychic foresight applies. Mass knowledge of the future simply doesn't make sense.
Another example, someone in the series (I forget whom) is reading the sports page of a newspaper, and a football game's score from the previous day is listed. Don't you think that the game the previous day would have been cancelled? Seeing as tens of thousands of people now know what the score will be?
It's the problem with the whole story. Seeing the future changes the future. It's as simple as that. So if you change your habits to accommodate this new future, then you weren't predicting the future in the same place.
Joseph Fiennes is creating his wall of suspects and evidence without anything to go on except his flash forward. If the flash forward hadn't happened, he would be staring at a blank wall.
The entire show defies all logic. You can say condecending things like i've "missed the point" or "haven't caught on to the concept," but I seriously doubt that I'm the one who needs to put more thought into it.
I like this show a lot but I
I like this show a lot but I was pretty angry when they killed off Gough... I just felt like his character had a lot of potential. I would much rather have watched his story play out than the babysitter... Man she is just irritating.
Also, what is with American TV shows using Japanese dialogue? It is great, because I speak Japanese, I just feel like I see it a lot.
Anyway, I hope they add a gay/bi man or trans character to the cast so you can start covering the show here!
I love this show. I agree
Love this show
John Cho is yummy! Hoping this article will bring in a few more viewers as the show is struggling from what I have read.
As an aside for "V" viewers, did anyone think the scenes with Visitor Joshua and his compatriot were a little more intense than just being Fifth Columnists?
Is it possible we have gay Visitors?

Let's not diss Fringe science...
Riiight.
Red Alert AfterElton writers, my own flash foward just alerted me to the fact that there is clearly a giant Thanksgiving sized gift basket from ABC hidden behind Michael's desk, packed with Magnolia bath pearls, Butterscotch body paint and other ABC stuff, all nestled in Oliver Fish's damp towel from OLTL two weeks ago.
Really Michael, I have never come across such shameless pandering to a particular network's promising (I grant you) but otherwise pretty run of the mill spec fic series. pfft!

And also..
I also meant to add: I hope you guys and gal(?) at AE have a great Thanksgiving. Considering the usual entertainment swill we are subjected to from even our own media, not to mention the international outlets, AE does a high quality job covering an aspect that is all too often ignored or derided, so two thumbs up.
(and yes, I am also trying to get my hands on that towel..) ;)

That's Y I read your website
Enjoying it!
I caught up with this show on DVR finally and have two episodes left to finish but I really like it. It is simple sci fi in my mind and that is why it works for me. I am a huge LOST fan but this one allows me to be a little less sci fi but still have the thriller aspect. Sure the whole idea that the LA office of the FBi would be heading this up sounds crazy, but the show does see where its flaws are and points them out thereby filling them in by bringing us into the whole sketicism whithin the show. The debate I love the best in the show is the whole "do you believe, or don't you?" The whole discussion of whether you can change the future is a good one too and how sometimes people are like lemmings in life, resigned to their fate rather than champions regardless of the windmill.
As for the men Zachary Knighton is a definite hotty but I was really surprised that I was really attracted to Lee Thompson Young a lot, I was really moved by his character and his sacrifices. I did also like the evil machinations of Dominic Monaghan. His initial episode on the train where he seduces the blonde woman was actually entrancing. (Note: ABC the bed scene with DOminic and this woman was a lot risque for 8pm dont you think?)
The lesbian storyline is one I really like and we have to see where it goes to truly judge it. This show is on at the 8pm hour so ABC did at least give visibility to a lesbian kiss in the "family hour" (ahem and Adam Lambert at 11pm was bad ABC?) I do like the actress, very Jorja Fox. I do like the fact that the show does build in the bureaucractic part of the government into this and Peter Coyote is one of those actors you can't tell if he is evil or not. I also like the electrician character only because the actor is really good. And the supporting cast they bring in as episode specific are actually top notch people you recognize and go "oh! I am glad they gave them some work!"
I also find it humorous that at least in FlashForward time the British Coupling's "Steve" (Jack Davenport) end up with the American "Coupling "Sally" (Sonya Walger).
