Who Are Your Favorite Gay Reality Stars?
Time for another AfterElton.com Reader's Choice Poll! This time around we'd like to identify the all-time favorite gay reality show contestants. To do that, we need your input! Please use the voting form below to nominate your favorite gay reality show stars — that is, contestants who publicly identify as gay (or bi) and have appeared on a televised reality show. Note that for purposes of this poll we only want to know which contestants you most like — thus, judges and hosts such as Tim Gunn, Miss Jay, Nate Berkus, and the like are all disqualified. Likewise, we're leaving the ladies to our sister site, AfterEllen.com. Voting is open until midnight February 20th, and until then you can submit as many of your favorites as you want by returning to the voting form below. But please no ballot stuffing — only nominate each of your favorites once! We'll tabulate everyone's votes and announce your top choices on March 5th! Submitted by on Fri, 2009-02-13 22:05. |

Lobby for your favorites below!
Danny Roberts
I adored Norm Korpi and Pedro as much as anyone else, and I would probably stick Pedro in if I got two choices, but Danny was one of the "realest" Real World castmembers they ever had. Smart, sweet, and just a little naughty.
Also, he was sex on a stick.
Ronnie Kroell
Ronnie the superstar!!
Nominate Reichen Lehmkuhl
He's worked hard to promote gay visibility, and openly discusses his sexuality and stance against Don't Ask Don't Tell. Plus he's HOT. :)
I may be straight, but I'm not narrow.
Chip Arndt
I was a big fan of Chip & Reichen during The Amazing Race 4, was really happy when they won, and was very saddened when they broke up. In the years since then, Reichen may have been more visible, at least where the tabloids are concerned, but I think Chip has done far more in terms of positive gay visibility, causes and activism.
And personally, I think Chip is hotter. :)

Chip IS hot
and he certainly has done a lot of work in the community. But I guess I just sort of have a big crush on Reichen after reading his book. :P
I may be straight, but I'm not narrow.
Chip
Reichen has only used his success after the Race to further a mediocre acting career, and Chip has been focused on community activism and fundraising.
As a team, they ran a great race with no drama, and on the show represented the community well. Chip gets my vote for what he's done since the race.
Pedro Zamora
I didn't actually get to watch Real World: San Francisco when it aired originally but the story of Pedro Zamora is incredibly poignant, sad and inspiring. Pedro's wedding to Sean Sasser is a definite highlight.
I understand a biographical movie with script written by Dustin Lance Black is now making film festival rounds. Hope AfterElton will be able to post a review of this film soon.
Pedro
It is being directed by Nick Oceano, a latino film maker, who has been a festival darling for his short film EL PRIMO. It star relative newcomer Alex Loynaz, as Pedro, who was in several episodes of the gay inclusive, GREEK. It was well reviewed at last year's Toronto Film and recently screened at the Berlin Film Festival ast Saturday. It is likely to to win the prestigious TEDDY BEAR for best gay or lesbian film.
That's all I am saying...
INSIDEGUY
Of All The Gay Reality Show Stars. . .
. . .I'll remember Pedro Zamora the best.
When he was making The Real World: San Francisco he didn't have a lot of time left in his life; yet he faced and lived it with great courage and grace.
I made a list
Of all the openly gay guys in Survivor history. We still don`t know much about the new kid so I didn`t include him.
Richard Hatch[Season 1 Borneo,Season 8 All-Star]
Brandon Quinton[Season 3 Africa]
John Carroll[Season 4 Marquesas]
Coby Archa[Season 10 Palau]
Rafe Judkins[Season 11 Guatemala]
J.P. Calderon[Season 13 Cook Islands]
Brad Virata[Season 13 Cook Islands]
Todd Herzog[Season 15 China]
Chet Welch[Season 16 Fans VS Favourites]
Charlie Herschel[Season 17 Gabon]
Of all these people I really like a lot of them(with the exception of maybe one or two).I`m voting for Brad Virata not only because he is very athletic and got good looks, also beacuse he was one of the very first, and still is one of some very few gay asian people in the TV history, and he kicked major butt in the game! For me he really helped break down the stereotypes about gay(and asian) people. And Rafe Judkins also did very well in his season, won a lot of individual immunity and reward challenge.I think he might also be one the first gay mormon on TV.
I think I should add
the openly gay ones usually would do very well in Survivor.we got two winners,Richard Hatch and Todd Herzog;Rafe Judkins ended up in 3rd place in his season;with the exception of J.P. Calderon(who didn`t come out on the show) and Chet Welch(who was one of the oldest guy),all the others at least made it to the jury.

gays in TAR
Here's a list of all the gay male racers on TAR, from what I can recall. I think there were some lesbian competitors too but I'm sure AfterEllen will deal with those. I didn't watch TAR 12 and 13 but I don't think there were any out gays participating on those races (those who did watch, please correct me if I'm wrong).

TAR 2 & 11 Oswald & Danny
TAR 3 Ken, Aaron, Dennis
TAR 4 Chip & Reichen

TAR 9 John & Scott
TAR 10 Tom & Terry
Ronnie Kroell
Pedro Zamora
WOW
I must confess I had never heard of Pedro until reading the posts here today. He sounds like an amazing man and I'm looking forward to learning more about him.
Thank you.
Another Vote for Pedro
I went with Pedro Zamora as well. I remember vividly his marriage to Sean Sasser--the first I'd ever witnessed--and his lectures to students about living with HIV/AIDS. And, of course, I remember getting news his death--the day after the season finale of his Real World season--and I found myself crying over this man I'd only met through reality TV.
Certainly there have been other gay reality stars with whom I, personally, have more in common or who I found to be incredibly entertaining, but there is no one whose achievement on reality television did more to advance visibility than Pedro Zamora.
It's been 15 years and no one's managed to come close to advancing our cause on television like Pedro did--which, I suppose, is both a testament to the man he was and a poor reflection of today's reality contests.
Ronnie
JP Calderon and David Bromstad
It's nice
