The Summer Gay TV Viewing Guide

American Idol Finale (Fox)

Why It’s Gay: Adam!

When It’s On: May 19th at 8 PM.

Likely Idol finalist Adam Lambert

The Great Gay Says: This is the night that Adam is going to win! He is going to win, right? He has to: he’s clearly the best, and the audience favorite – and his songs are selling the best on iTunes. Oh, hell, the suspense is killing me!

Glee (Fox)

Why It’s Gay: The latest show from Nip/Tuck’s Ryan Murphy is a dramedy about a high school glee club made up mostly of “losers,” including a kid in a wheelchair and a gay kid (Chris Colfer) – and also one hot singing jock. Their advisor, played by Matthew Morrison, is also pretty easy on the eyes.

When It’s On: The pilot is airing May 19th at 9 PM, right after the Idol season finale … then, weirdly, we won’t see the show again until this fall.

The spirited cast of Glee

The Great Gay Says: The first half of the pilot, when the characters are all introduced, is kind of a mess. But then, incredibly, the show suddenly kicks into gear as something fresh and new. The scene when they are confronted with their glee club “competition” is so laugh-out-loud hilarious that it should rightfully end up a classic TV moment.

Party Down (Starz)

Why It’s Gay: The dysfunctional caterers in this semi-improvised show take on a gay wedding.

When It’s On: The gay episode airs Friday, May 22nd at 10:30 PM.

The Party Down cast includes Jane Lynch (far right)

The Great Gay Says: The cast is very appealing, and there have been some very funny moments in the episodes I’ve seen … but, sadly, the show isn’t quite funny enough. And I’m getting tired of writing that Jane Lynch is wasted in whatever her latest project is, but … Jane Lynch is wasted in this.
