The Best Fall Gay TV Guide Ever!
Prepare to be dazzled!
As difficult as it is to believe given our astounding amounts of copy and shocking levels of professionalism, AfterElton.com is less than five years old.
Needless to say, the site has seen a lot of changes in these past few years – not the least of which is our bi-annual TV-viewing previews.
At the beginning, it pretty much consisted of our doing a furious Google search of the words “gay” and “TV” thirty minutes before making the article live.
These days? Well, now we have virtually every TV star or showrunner imaginable available at the touch of a button.
In other words, access, thy name is AfterElton.com! Hey, we even talked to Padma friggin’ Lakshmi (who, for the record, is even more beautiful in person than she is on TV – we’re just sayin’).
And since we’ve watched preview copies of most of the new shows, we won’t just tell you what’s on – we’ll tell you if it’s even worth watching in the first place.
This is your last warning: prepare to be dazzled!
Warning: This “preview” article does contain very minor spoilers about the upcoming seasons of various shows, but we promise not to spill any major beans!
Mad Men (AMC)
Bryan Batt and Christina Hendricks in Mad Men
Why It’s Gay: Gay characters Sal (played by out actor Bryan Batt) and Kurt (played by Edin Gali).
When It’s On: The third season premiered Sunday, August 16th. Future episodes will air Sundays at 10 PM (AMC).
AfterElton.com Says: In the season premiere, we saw Salvatore, who is married to a woman, have an encounter with a bellhop where he got his first kiss from a man (and possibly more – that’s for the viewer to decide). "Everything that happens on Mad Men has consequences, just like real life,” Matt Weiner, the creator of the show, tells the site. “Even getting away with it is a consequence sometimes." As for actor Bryan Batt, he tells us: "Sal's not going away. Don't worry, there's more Sal coming up."
Flipping Out (Bravo)
Why It’s Gay: Jeff, Ryan, and Jeff’s new hot gay assistant, Trace.
When It’s On: The show returned for its third season on August 17th. Future episodes will air Tuesdays at 10 PM (Bravo).
AfterElton.com Says: The downturn in the economy has destroyed Jeff’s business as a flipper, but ironically he feels more in control than ever. “The market went to s**t, and I’m now forced to figure out what I’m going to do with my life,” Jeff tells us. “No one is making the decision for me, no psychic has an answer.” Sadly, Jeff and his business partner (and former actual partner) Ryan have a major falling out this season. “Right around mid-season, it comes out,” Jeff says. “I think Ryan does something really disloyal and inappropriate, and I’m having a hard time recovering. I feel betrayed.”
As usual, the show features some staff turnover – one person quits, and one person is fired. But hottie young Trace is here to stay (so far, at least). “I have a good-looking staff!” Jeff says. “Trace just fits in so well.”
