No Gay Character on This Season of "The Vampire Diaries"

At a CW party Friday night at the Television Critics Association Tour in Los Angeles, The Vampire Diaries co-creator and executive producer Kevin Williamson told reporters that despite some reports last summer, there wouldn't be a gay character added to the show this season.

"We won’t get around to it this season," said Williamson, noting that the show already has a very large cast. Williamson, himself an out gay man, reiterated that he very much wants to add a gay character to the show, but that "I want to do it right. You don’t want to bring him in just to bring him in."

Pressed as to which gay character might be added to the show, he noted that it wouldn't be a werewolf as that metaphor was "too obvious." He then suggested, "Caroline’s dad is a founding family member and we’ve already established him as being gay so I think it would be great to come in and have a fierce gay man run that council."

So sorry to disappoint gay TVD fans. You'll have to wait until at least next fall for a 'mo in Mystic Falls.
