GOOL THEATER

PICK OF THE WEEK

As The World Turns

Reid Oliver is one of the most sharply drawn and wonderfully written gay characters I’ve seen since One Life To Live’s Kyle Lewis. Kudos to As The World Turns for creating him and making him such a multi-dimensional person. He’s not just the gay guy, but has integrated himself and developed different relationships among the citizenry of Oakdale.

The reveal of his sexuality was well done, treated as matter of fact with humor and no apologies. And that’s a credit to a show that has always been so heavy handed in dealing with these issues in the past.

Luke and Reid’s antipathy is obviously a mask for something else…

SPOILER ALERT! While I’ve known since before he even joined the show that Reid Oliver was gay and would ultimately become romantically involved with Luke (it helps to have sources who tell you these things), it’s great to finally see that aspect of the story unfold on screen, as Luke and Reid’s underlying attraction starts to become more evident and more entertaining. I’m loving their scenes and can’t wait to see how this plays out.

But I would be remiss if I did not mention the romantic and warm scenes between Luke and Noah. This past week was a reminder of why these two became so popular as Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann’s chemistry shined. The scene with the video camera was so moving, and I was particularly taken with Silbermann’s performance. When he looked like he was about to mist up, so did I. They’ve still got it.

They’ve still got it…
