News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Gays of our Lives (March 30, 2009)

And last but not least (though actually it is least in quality) is Hollyoaks. The inevitable happens when Nancy sees Kris and Ravi together and the reality of her situation hits her….

Quite frankly, I can’t believe it took Nancy this long to come to this conclusion. It’s hard to believe that any woman in her right mind (especially this woman in particular) would enter into a situation where she knows the two men she are involved with are also sleeping together. I’m just glad it didn’t drag on forever because it's already gone on long enough and is a sign of how bad this show has become thanks to poor writing. The best words said in this entire drama were when Nancy said “This was never going to have a happy ending.” How could it?

As far as Ravi and Kris, that is doomed well — even I don’t need to read spoilers to know that. These two are so mismatched and chemistry free that it’s ridiculous. All in all, never was so much sex so boring and few shows have gone from such great queer storytelling — John Paul, Craig, Kieron — to such dreck.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

As The World Turns - It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a week’s worth of episodes this much and the return of Damian Grimaldi has thus far made for great soap opera. While the pace is a bit too fast (typical of this show), Van Hansis, as the confused and angry Luke, is excellent as always, Paolo Seganti reminds us how intriguing, mysterious and dangerous Damian can be. And Noelle Beck was wonderful as Lily, reliving the past so well that you actually forget she wasn’t playing the role when those scenes first took place. And, of course, Jon Hensley was solid support as Holden. But beyond the acting, the story itself has so many layers and intrigue that I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

Will Damian try to break them up?

United States of TaraIn a fast-paced, well done episode, Marshall (Keir Gilchrist) got dumped by Jason in a scene all too familiar to many young gay men, and the aftermath of his shocking act of anger sent the entire family in new directions. His turning to drugs to deal with his feelings led to a wonderful moment of truth between himself and his sister, who was more entertaining here than she’s been all season. And while I can’t wait to see where Tara’s decision to find the man who holds the key to her past will go, do we really need to also see the love life of Tara’s sister? At least Tara’s new doctor is hot and one can always appreciate that.

Marshall learns life isn’t easy when you fall
for a sexually curious 16-year-old.

Forbidden Love – What fun! Yes, I am actually saying this about Forbidden Love, a show I haven’t enjoyed in quite some time. But the episode during which Gregor tried to hold up his end of the bargain with Olli regarding the reconstruction of No Limits was cute as can be. The playful sequence where Gregor had to load up the truck by himself was funny and Andreas Jancke was as charming and engaging as always. And my, but does he fill out a pair of jeans nicely!
