INTERVIEW WITH JAKE SILBERMANN

Jake Silbermann joined As the World Turns as aspiring filmmaker Noah Mayer in a role that was only supposed to last three months, but from the minute he landed in Oakdale, ATWT and daytime would never be the same. Literally overnight, Silbermann and co-star Van Hansis (Luke) became “Nuke,” daytime’s first, biggest and longest running gay couple, with fans spanning the entire globe.

Three years later, Silbermann is one of daytime’s most recognizable stars thanks to his good looks, sizzling chemistry with Hansis and a rabid and loyal fanbase. I had a brief chat recently with the handsome actor about his signature role, his current storyline playing a blind man, how he feels about As the World Turns coming to an end after 54 years, and his own plans for the future.

AfterElton.com: How did you prepare for playing a blind man?
Jake Silbermann:
There are things you have to do to prepare yourself for something like this. There’s a blind center close to where I live actually, so I spent some time there and kind of observed. What I couldn’t prepare for was the lack of physical eye communication with my other actors because actors are always looking for that eye connection so when they’re not getting that I think it can be a bit jarring. I think other people struggled with it more than I did at first.

AE: How are you enjoying the current storyline as it plays out? Noah’s kind of in the dark and doesn’t know what is going on.
JS:
But, how long will that last? [laughs] It’s been a lot of fun. Eric’s a great guy. I think he’s a fantastic actor. I’ve really enjoyed working with him.
