I think I offered enough insight last week with my comments about Chris Engen's departure, but just to rehash it, simply: I don't believe him.

Ain't that the truth...Like you, I'd wish they'd get on with it already because I don't find the build-up to the reveal particularly well-written. Everyday it's just some new way to tell the audience that Cane doesn't like to talk about his path...which we knew after watching the last episode.
Kudos for picking Jason Tam as the Soap Stud of the Week--I love his character on OLTL. I always feel a little lecherous after adoring him but then I remind myself that he's nearly 27 in real life.I wish they'd give Jason more storyline since I find him to be a much better actor than Brandon Buddy (Cole).
There's something wrong with my system and I'm not able to see embedded youtube or Daily Motion videos, but these embedded videos I can see fine. Strange.
Física o química make their low of the season last week because the episode starts later (because a debate about european elections), this week they reach 3 millions again.
I find a clip of Van reacting to his emmy nomination, very cute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebmnCHSP0zE
So glad Ollian is back. All my favorite couples, Nuke, Kevin & Scotty, Ollian, have been kinda eh in the past months. This is just so nice. Believable drama with a steamy makeup. I hope it keeps up for awhile.
Well the German have done it again. I haven't followed much of their storyline until now. The scenes at the couch and dinna-turns-sex are so hot yet romantic. Is it just me or Kris Allen and Thore really look alike???? I always thought that Kris looked so much alike with Thore when I first saw him on Idol.
Any chance we will be seeing regular video updates or even live blogs for Y&R and OLTL once the gay storylines really kick in? I don't have the time to view full episodes every day, especially when the gay characters aren't on.
Brian does such a wonderful job with his ATWT live blogs, but he obviously can't do OLTL since they air simultaneously. Snicks, are you up or it? Dennis? Anyone?
Anthony, I look forward to GOOL every week. Thanks for the great work you do for us Soap fans! I really am looking forward to One Life to Live, and have already started DVRing it to get familiar with the show.
Hey Anthony, great GOOL as usual.I was wondering if you found Southland executive producer Christopher Chulack’s quote about Officer Cooper coming out of the closet as troublesome as I do, “Maybe, maybe not. That face is just an insight into an individual’s life who happens to be a cop. Who knows if it will be germane to what he does as a cop? I kind of think no. But again, we have to see where we want to go next season.”
This show, more than most cop shows on TV, has made a point of showing us the personal, domestic, and romantic aspects of each character…except Officer Cooper. We know about his ex-wife and drug habit, but he has not had equal screen time in terms of his relationships outside of his job.I was all for the slow approach to his character, but that quote sounds like Mr. Chulack sees Cooper’s homosexuality as different than all the other character’s heterosexuality.
I guess we will just have to wait until the fall to see what happens, but I am worried we will have another asexual gay character on TV.I was expecting so much more from such a well made show.
I actually didn't think of it that way. To me it wasn't a question of not showing John's personal life, but whether he'd be coming out to his fellow officers, which is different. He could still remain closeted, but we'd still get a look into his life at home. That said, I was not a fan of the slow, subtle approach the show took. And I hope the show stops handling John with kid gloves next season.
It's probably been said somewhere, but there's going to be a new exec producer of the Who franchise after Christmas. AFAIK, he hasn't made any kind of statement how he feels about the spinoffs or plans to handle them.
He could ignore them and let them keep going under the people who've been running them to date. He could take over them personally, either as is, or making changes. Or he could axe one or both of them.
i suspect the future has less to do with numbers than it does with how The Moff feels they fit in with his vision of Doctor Who. I enjoy Torchwood, but I frankly wouldn't be crying if he decided to tighten and refocus the franchise into a single, lean machine.
A 4TH SEASON LIS MAYBE THEY DON'T KNOW YET.
THANKS FOR THE ARTICLE ANTHONY!
People fear what they don't understand.Thats why homophobes are so scared of gay people.
I think it wes only a question of time after Nuke success that other soaps will try the gay path. And right now Y&R and OLTL probably (and hopefully) won't have to face the same crap that ATWT had this years, it seems that people get used to gay kisses (or at least don't get so mad at them).
The OLTL storyline seems fine, bring past to characters life usually has good results. And it's good to see an openly gay actor portraying the role, i read that daytime soaps are really gay friendly and hire a good bunch of gay actors, but only a few are openly to the public.
About Y&R, i know that everybody say that it's the best, but so far i find it very dissapointing, not about the gaslightning storyline, just in terms of the gay character. Rafe is very far from having Luke status (in fact Noah was more important in his first day than Rafe is right now), and i think if it'll be true that he will be involved in the main storyline (and in all the interviews seems that it'll be that way) they must invest a bit of time in the character, because he is barely there (well lately he is more missing in action than even barely there) and i think that nobody cares for a character with no screen time, and after he play an important role it would be good if the audience know him a little better. We'll see how this develop in a near future.
And about ATWT, they must bring back, some Noah's past, come on, the Col get suspicious the first time he watched Luke, and at that time he thought Noah was dating Maddie, he had to have a reason to being suspicious. I like the current film storyline, it brings a lot of posibilities (as the introduction of Mason), i only hope the writers don't mess it and don't rush the things (but maybe this too much to ask to atwt writers)
I can understand how frustrating and disappointing it must be for new viewers tunning in to find out what's going on with Rafe. Y&R rarely thrusts any new character front and center especially if said character is not connected in someway to a core family. They do tend to steer on the side of caution more often than not however, so yeah, they will take their sweet ol' time with this story. Still there is more they could be doing with the character to weave him into the fabric of Geneoa City. He is an old pal of Billy's so it would be nice to see them hang out from time to time. Billy sure could use someone to talk to that ins't ripping him up one side and down the other all the time. His budding friendship with Colleen could be shown more once the actress who plays the part has returned to set full time from filming a movie. Some interaction with fellow legal eagle and Adam's girlfriend, Heather, might be interesting to see as well. He definitely needs to mingle more with that 20-something crowd so we get used to seeing him more often and actually might like him before his suspected involvement in the gaslighting storyline and other possible storylines down the road.
Once upon a time I died. And like my namesake I got better.
Somebody has kindly posted all of the scenes of Fish and Kyle thus far on OLTL; if you don't mind seeing their story out of context, it's still a nice introduction. And, OMG, Scott Evans has the SEXIEST voice ever!!!
So i need someone to explain this to me because im getting all kinds of confused. So is Cane on Y&R suppose to be old enough to have been the baby that was switched for Jill's son. Who would then in turn have been the same age as the man Nina married and therefore be old enough to be Phillip IV's father. Am I suppose to believe that at all?
Phillip III "died" in 1989 at the age of 19, which would make him 39 this year. When Cane was introduced as the baby switch in 2007, the characted was "de-SORASed" to 31 (thus, now 33), which would have made him only 13 in 1989! And since Phillip IV was born in 1988, he would have been a father at age 12!!!
Thom Bierdz was 8 years older than the character (Phillip III) he was playing at the time in the late 80s; he's now 47 yo. Daniel Goddard (Cane) is 37 yo, making him technically closer in age to the original Phillip III. John Driscoll, who will be playing Phillip IV (who is technically 21 yo), is actually 27 yo.
People love Sean Tully on Corrie is that its a Brit show and the Brits love camp, possibly more than any other nation on earth, We love over top men and have had them on TV and radio since forever.
You only have too look at Julien and Sandy in "round the horn" in the mid 60's on the radio to see that the more outragous the camp the more beloved it becomes.
Its just a national trait, Danny La Rue died last week and it was all over the news about his passing, this was a over the top drag act that was the main stay of family viewing for decades.
Though I myself love camp too...Sean as a character is just poor, I really dont like him at all but it seems I am in the minority there.
I was hoping for Todd Grimshaw to come back for longer but it seems either they or he did not want to.
Is it just me or did anyone else get the impression from jump street that this Riley Morgan guy is really Adam? One is always suspicious when a character dies off screen and some new person arrives to give you info about said character before their death. ATWT is not known for making their "coincidences" that believable. Riley showing up at just the opportune time at his friend's memorial service is sketchy. Him liking similar things as Adam is also fishy. I immediately though Adam had plastic surgery to change his appereance. It is highly unlikely that a mother wouldn't recognize her own son even if he did have extensive plastic surgery. But Margo hasn't been portrayed as being the sharpest tool in the shed so anything is possible. Just thinking out loud I guess. Even if Riley isn't Adam this Riley kid knows more than he's letting on about Adam and his whereabouts. I'm interested in how Noah and Luke might get mixed up in it all.
Once upon a time I died. And like my namesake I got better.
I don't watch the show, so I don't know how they handled it, but some people are indeed asexual - even young, attractive people. Exhibit A: David Jay, founder of AVEN. Just sayin'.
they’re decidedly not your squeaky clean boy next door teens ala ATWT’s Luke and Noah and will possibly have more color, shadings and depth.
Just because Luke and Noah aren't as amoral as Kyle doesn't mean they're "squeaky clean."
And I don't think it's fair to praise OLTL over ATWT when their storyline hasn't really started yet. I mean, everyone was praising ATWT when they first started the Luke/Noah storyline, and it was only later that the show started to recieve a lot of criticism.
.... praised OLTL over ATWT at any rate. And if I did, well.... there's no disputing that OLTL is by far the better written soap in my mind. I simply said it's nice to see going in that it's nice that these new characters have the possibility of being a little more complex and darker than Oakdale's favorite gay teens. I'm a fan of Luke and Noah obviously, but I feel the show has not only failed miserably in their characterization of both characters, but sometimes they are quite frankly, not well drawn. That's actually my overall point. Its true that Luke and Noah, Luke especially, have done things that are less than 'squeaky clean' behavior, which is when Luke as a character, is more compelling and watchable. But the show, because they want to make their gay characters so very likeable, sometimes make them kind of boring, Noah in particular has elitcted yawns from myself at times. I personally think the characters might be more interesting if we saw more of their darker shadings and not less.
That was a great Ollian episode. A reminder of what was and what is to come.
The acting by Jo and Thore continues to be superb. The entire episode was beautifully done. The bedroom scene was quite glorious, but I also loved the discussion on the couch at Nolimits.
These next couple of months looks to be a really intriguing as a new storyline kicks into gear for Ollian...the sexiest and most gorgeous couple on TV. Oh...and I was also on Olli's side during the arguement. Christian should have called down at NL to see how things were, since he knew Olli was going to be alone.
Anthony...i'm with you on the Sean Tully character. I cannot stand his character. He is a walking baffoon. I just don't get the love for Sean. I think it's mostly the old age pensioners who seem to really like his cringe worthy portrayal. And what's worse is when Cotton does interviewers, he comes across so full of himself, it's really off putting. I think he takes his hype a bit too seriously.
Anthony...another great blog. I'm loving all the scoop!!
Where can I see the Forbidden Love video clip mentioned in this GOOL? I cannot see where any of the clips are embeded and they are not on the Forbidden Love show link...someome HELP!!!!
OLTL is sometimes very well-written, but many of their current stories (Marty is the same dull person with or without amnesia, Todd is a vile sociopath who continues to be the star of the show, Stacey is unwatchable) have problems. Just thought I'd note, Anthony, that the photo on the first page isn't of Brett Claywell but Kieren Hutchison - who coincidentally played Jonathan McKenna, a gay character on Shortland Street in the mid-90s. Jonathan got involved with the first gay character on SS - played by Karl Urban, now of Star Trek fame. Jonathan was actually an interesting, multi-faceted character (who was part of the "principal family" on the show at the time since his father was boss of the Shortland Street clinic) whose sexual orientation didn't form the basis of all of his storylines.
I don't want to present myself as a Shortland Street expert as I watch it very infrequently these days but I did watch some of Gerald's storyline and they dealt to an extent with his sexuality. After his failed attempt at sleeping with a man, he had a discussion with a friend in which he revealed that he had never felt sexual attraction to/desire for anyone, male or female - so his conclusion that he was asexual.
Do a google image search and that's the first pic of Brett Claywell that comes up; I then did a google image search for Kieran Hutchison and they do look remarkably similar.
If he is asexual then he is, its a perfectly normal thing that needs to be addressed in the media so people understand and dont feel obliged to have sex or a orientation if thats not their nature.
Too long it has been over looked and sniggered at.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while and decided that I needed to comment on there only being two options for the “Question of the Week” for last week. I am wondering if I am the only one who did not vote because my option was not available, neither and/or other.
There are several reasons for this, yes, I know soap operas are known cheating and other sexcapaides, but I think our guys, having just having become lovers, need time to just be a loving couple and get to know each other better, before having to deal with cheating. Having Noah chosen to be the cheater means that Luke will be the one most hurt. Finally, with Mason as Noah’s film advisor, he is his teacher. Sex with a student! Definitely not cool, a good way to get fired.
And well, it wouldn't be the first time so I'll press forward.....
IMO, Luke and Noah have been together and happy as a couple for about six months now and that's plenty of time in soapland. To be honest, Luke and Noah are on a one way train to Snooze-ville these days. If it weren't for Riley's presence in the current storyline, they'd be hard pressed to capture my attention. Something or someone needs to come along to inject some life and interest in this relationship or at least give me a reason to want to watch. I think a hot young college professor on the make for his student (or his student's boyfriend) is just what the doctor ordered. And sex with a student? This is a show were a man had sex with a girl he once thought was his daugther or where a closeted gay wanted to kick it with his elderly wife's teenage grandson. A teacher bedding his student (and both are consenting adults, BTW) is nothing compared to that. I think though that Mason being caught between risking his job and his yen for his film student would be an interesting conflict if the show chooses to play it.
Yes, they are together (and happy) for six months, but they are playing the hardy boys all the time. I think they need to have some storylines centered in both as couple before cheating become a real posibility.
And about Mason, i feel the same way that about the gay storylines in Y&R or OLTL, all people seems to get excited, but i think we'll better wait, because even if these soap are better writen (something wich is not difficult, because i think almost everyone can take a lot more profit of ATWT characters than their writers) that don' mean that the storyline will be good, there are a good bunch of night time shows well writen that doesn't develop their gay characters at all, and are merely the confesors of other characters.
I think Mason could be great, being a third part or not, but they better don't rush the things. First introduce him, make him likeable, and make him interact with both guys, and then decide the route they want to follow.
And about Ollian, yes the episode was great, but frankly that don't compensate for months and months of lame use of this great characters. They better give Ollian a good storyline, because they are underused since November
OMG!

Cold feet for Southland
Hey Anthony, great GOOL as usual. I was wondering if you found Southland executive producer Christopher Chulack’s quote about Officer Cooper coming out of the closet as troublesome as I do, “Maybe, maybe not. A few comments
OLTL is sometimes very well-written, but many of their current stories (Marty is the same dull person with or without amnesia, Todd is a vile sociopath who continues to be the star of the show, Stacey is unwatchable) have problems. I do look forward to Fish and Kyle, although considering they are both supporting characters, there has never been any same-sex kissing or affection between men on an ABC soap, and considering I don't know if I believe what Nelson Branco says (especially after the Chris Engen mess), I'm not sure how I feel. I'm disappointed EE is being criticized by a Muslim group, but not surprised. To be honest I think the writing on Eastenders is often very poor, it's all stunts, shock value, depressing, inconsistent. I can see why an organization may be wary of what they will do with their first gay Muslim. The writing for Christian has been off from the first day, and the Masoods have veered from stereotype to cliche, to idiotic attempts at comedy, and such long stretches on the backburner that one of the main actors in the family quit.

It is Brett
Thanks....
I think that they should leave Gerald be
Did not vote.

I don't agree
Touchdown!
That's how I felt when I saw the last minute of Forbidden Love! Still one of the best shows representing good gay romance as far as I'm concerned.
Another concern is the state of Les Bleus... little to be heard from the show and Youtube hasn't had much to offer on the second season. WTF Mate?
