Gays of our Lives (June 23, 2009)There’s a lot going on in this week’s Gays of Our Lives, starting with an extra heaping portion of GOOL THEATER. We visit One Life To Live’s Llanview for the first time, get in on the ground floor of shocking new storylines on both Hollyoaks and EastEnders – and that’s just for starters. We also bring you more spoilers than ever before, including the dish on a possible kiss that may have led to a recast on The Young and the Restless, why Christian and Olli don their swimsuits on Forbidden Love and the return of Lucas Sanders to Dutch soap Good Times, Bad Times. Meanwhile, in GOOL NEWSBEAT you’ll find out why openly gay actor Luke Macfarlane traveled to South Africa and learn just how gay True Blood is going to get in its new season. And as always, I’ve got SNAPSHOTS and our SOAP STUD OF THE WEEK!
TABLE OF CONTENTS GOOL THEATER There’s a lot to cover in this week’s GOOL Theater, so let’s get things going by making our very first trip to Llanview, Pennsylvania where One Life To Live is set. Here we get our first look at the sexually fraught relationship between Oliver Fish (openly gay actor Scott Evans) and Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell). One Live To Live
Kyle and Fish struggle with
their (yet to be revealed) sexual past While the story is just getting started, it does show great potential. Not just because of the inevitable sexual struggles in store for Oliver, but because we have the good guy/bad boy thing going on, the kind of grist soaps have been milling for decades for its straight couples. That could be a very compelling angle to the storyline once the conflict over their sexuality is played out. I do have a problem though, and that is that Scott Evans comes off as a bit stiff in his performance. I’m not sure if that’s an acting choice, as Oliver is trying to keep himself under control and maintain some sort of façade, or if it’s more about acting ability. I guess that remains to be seen.
