Gays of our Lives (June 23, 2009)I know I keep harping on this (and thankfully I won’t have to much longer), but can we move things along here? I had forgotten how slowly paced Y&R could be, not having been a regular viewer again until recently. And watching as the show drags along out both the Adam/Rafe story as well as the Philip storyline is becoming a bit frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all well written, well acted and the story remains compelling. However, the pacing can be excruciating at times. But an even bigger issue I have is that I think the writers should have spent a bit more time developing Rafe as a character before this week’s episodes put him in the middle of the action.
As great as Rafe looks in a
suit and tie, I’m ready to see him out of them. Thus far we’ve only seen Rafe as a buttoned down lawyer and really know nothing about him beyond that other than he’s a nice guy and he’s gay. The show should have spent the weeks that Rafe was off screen giving us a scene here or there developing the character. Given what’s going to happen (some of which is common knowledge, but some is not and I wouldn’t dare spoil anybody’s fun by revealing it), I think the story would work better if we knew more about Rafe before the plot takes off. Forbidden Love CLIP ONE
With all the mooning and heavy sighs, Stella is acting more like a high school girl with a crush than a grown woman in love. And while it’s great that Olli is always there to hear both side of the endless drama, you’d think he’d get bored hearing about it all the time (like the audience!) Gee and I said, I wouldn’t go on about it, didn’t I?
Sorry, Olli, you’re on your
own this time! Now to what’s important. I said last week I was on Olli’s side over his work dispute with Christian and I am still on his side … for the most part. I found Christian’s temper tantrum to be over the top and, given how long he's worked in the service industry, I also didn't believe he isn't well aware that sometimes you have to flirt with the guest and the clientele. That said, I did I love the beach sequence. It was sweet and fun and it’s great to see the guys just enjoying each other as a couple. Jo and Thore's chemistry is as solid and strong as ever. As for Olli’s decision to fire Christian, I agree that they shouldn’t be working together and it’s clearly not healthy for their relationship. But I don’t think firing your boyfriend is the way to go. That I can’t take Olli's side on!
