QUESTION OF THE WEEK

For weeks now, fans of One Life To Live have been caught up in the complicated and messy love story between Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish, played by Brett Claywell and out actor Scott Evans. And it’s about to get even messier and more complicated.

On August 17th, out Broadway actor Nicholas Rodriguez debuted as Nick Chavez, the new gay in town who caught Kyle’s eye, much to Oliver’s chagrin. And what started as a four-day gig to be a third wheel in the Oliver/Kyle relationship has turned into an recurring role that promises to bring much gay excitement to Llanview. AfterElton.com recently spoke to the handsome, talented actor about his new life in the world of soaps, his Broadway work, his upcoming film debut and much more.

(As this interview is rather lengthy, feel free to skip directly to GOOL Theater.)

AE: What made you decide to do a soap opera?
NR:
It was one of the first television auditions that I went on. My degrees are in opera, and I thought that was what I wanted to do. Then I moved to the city, and everything just kind of changed. I've been going with the flow and studying different things, but there's something about the quick pace of the soap opera that I really like. It keeps you on your feet. You get the script, you just have a few days, then you have to trust your instinct and go.
