.... as it turns out, I'm really not allowed to talk about most of what we saw there that day since the show shoots two months in advance and I wouldn't want to ruin upcoming story. I will write about it closer to the time the show we saw taped actually airs.
BTW, the visit was most certainly not 'alleged'. Thanks for your 'interest'.
Great interview with Nicholas, Anthony. What a sweetheart! Thanks for sharing so much info about him and this budding OLTL triangle.
I'm so glad that the OLTL writers realized that he's more than a pretty face and expanded his role. Of course, I'm rooting for Fish to work through his tough stuff and rekindle that collegiate flame with Kyle -- but I think some Kyle/Nick fun in the process sounds great!
I will piggyback on Boyd's comment and triple agree that the interview with Nicholas was great and the entire column is fantastic! Who else do you contribute to Anthony so we can give them our business???
I love the triangle idea but what if Kyle and Nick hit it off for awhile and spin it into a Blair/Tea/Todd trifecta which allows them also to spin into other areas. What if David Vickers ends up with Nick? It would be cool to see Nick pick up as Vicki's campaign manager and face off with Dorian as well. We should be rooting for Nick as well to get a new character ingrained and built into the structure of the show. We could have a triangle still but also then establish even two couples eventually. Not that it will happen but viewer demand could take it there if we move the ratings for them. The added baby element is a huge one as well. Kyle needs to find a job though. And where is our gal Roxy?!
I hope we get a bed cuddling scene though soon. Sounds like Kyle and Nick are headed there.
On other storylines, I was initially shocked about the Tea secret of her being married to Ross but now I just want it out in the open. Move on and push through this. What would have been more shocking is if she had a baby with Ross and she abandoned them. Florencia Lozano is still acting the hell out of her scenes though. Can Marty pass the torch - or the Emmy - over to her now?
Oh my God! is about the only thing I could think for about ten minutes after watching that scene. The shower scene is very very very intimate. All I can say is kudos to the actors, they were incredibly believable. It's light years beyond anything that VL or any other TV show has ever done.
They were actually so steamy and intense that I kinda felt... uncomfortable(!) watching them too. Funny how the mind works. You like what you see but it feels chilling. Maybe it's just the realization that AWZ is a (daytime?) soap and you wouldn't think the producers would have that kind of content on... I think I was saying "oh my god SCANDALOUS" the entire time my eyes were glued to the screen!
I liked the interview. It sounds like things will improve with Nick's character, but he's still sounding a little too much like Chris, Satan's touchy-feely lover on South Park. A job is great, but character flaws are what soaps thrive on. Maybe once Kyle starts to admit he's still not over Fish, we'll get to see some actual life in him?
i actually have never watched this show, but have gotten a few clips sent to me from time to time incase i was interested. today was no different.
what time does this show air in Germany? (it is a german show right?) does it air during the day? i was watching this shower scene and was shocked, only because i thought "if this exact scene happened on american daytime TV, it would be so controversial" - hell, people would've gotten obama involved, i am sure.

Maybe I'm jaded by too much gay sex, but while I was very happy about the forward movement in the story and the emotional aspect of it, the scene itself didn't too much for me as a running scene (as opposed to a picked apart by screencaps). The editing was too choppy for my taste. I actually prefer the way they shoot Jenny's sex scenes (with Lars or Marian). It's just more in one piece with movement. That's the kind of thing I want to see for DeRo. But various recent interviews hinted that they did more than one love scene, I still have every hope in the world :)
It's a daily German soap opera Airs sometime between 6 and 8pm in German. It's my favorite of the foreign soaps. For the gay characters and the related characters who are all very compelling.
The scenes between Deniz and Roman yesterday were beautiful and sexy but mostly because of the long trajectory of the story between the characters. Their love story has been really messy and complicated but very engaging and worth all the angst (IMO)
The show has been on for 3 years and the story has been going on since the fall of 2007 (the characters as individuals, as a couple and then as individuals again)
A lot of folks stopped watching the first time the couple broke up (for various reasons to lengthy to get into).
I've been a consistent viewer since the beginning just because I love both characters (regardless of whether they are together or not)
But the chemistry between the actors (romantic and otherwise) is incredible and they are both wonderfully talented actors.
The show has the perfect blend of soapy goodness, great drama, excellent comedy and an edgy kind of sexiness and play.
The only way to really understand the show is to watch it because folks have such radically different opinions about it that you can really draw a lot of conclusions just based on what other folks say (includng me)
The is a new story arc for Deniz and Roman going on now (since May really) so it will be wonderfully to see what happens from here onward
Eskimokissproject has been subtitling every Deniz and Roman related episode from the beginning going forward and from the current storylines going backward so at some point they will have done them all.
thanks for that info. maybe i'll try and watch some of it.
it doesn't surprise me though that you said a lot of people stopped watching when they broke up. on General Hospital, a soap here, a very popular couple broke up and a lot of people stopped watching the show.
ya know, that is really the downside of soaps. you break a popular couple up and well....all hell breaks loose in the ratings and stuff.
btw, how do you pronounce deniz? like dennis? for some reason, i say it like 'denise'
That was AWESOME! This would never pass broadcast tv censors here in the US. Especially on daytime tv. If this were cable,no problem.
If only American tv were this bold. It would be a completely different game. A BIG "Danke" to RTL for making AWZ available online to viewers outside of Germany.
Subtitled or not. Now if only the BBC would let us across the pond view shows online via iPlayer. We get to listen to BBC radio, why not the TV shows.
I miss "Estenders" since my local PBS station pulled it off the air
I usually have quite a difference in opinion from Anthony, but this week we seem to be in synch. I liked the interview with Nick Rodriguez, and the OLTL storyline has been truly entertaining.
The acting's great and feels real--it's that nitty gritty, turn-knots-in-your-stomach emotion that I love. Tika and Brett have been spectacular. The other cast members are great too, although some are a bit over the top (read: psychotic nurse). I also take back any reservations I had about Scott Evans's acting abilities, Oliver Fish is NOTHING like him and had me fooled completely: http://www.soapoperadigest.com/OLTL-fan-event-aug-09.mov (If you ever happen to read this Mr. Evans, please don't ever change!)
The storylines are intruiguing and realistic, at least by soap standards. They're intertwined with each other, so our boys aren't off in la-la land on their own. And the drama is just gonna get juicier and juicier with Fish having planted his seed (caviar?) in that tramp Staci. I also appreciate that TPTB are really going forward with this face first, no holds barred: the early kiss, the first gay love triangle on daytime soap... hopefully some steamy scenes with our steamy new favourite actors... they certainly haven't held back on the daily dose of beefcake (read: pseudo-porn shower scenes).
However, I would like to say this about ATWT. As much as ATWT has fallen from grace, as much as Nuke has no warmth, as much as TPTB have had too many sloppy plots and she-who-must-not-be-mentioned's, and as much as Mason needs to take off that damned scarf in the summer... lol... remember that ATWT started the ball. I have a little hunch in me that says these other soaps would never have followed suit in including gay characters if ATWT's Nuke hadn't been so successful (however poorly done). For that, I thank ATWT and won't forget what they contributed to our world of daytime sudsy television. All I can say is that they had their chance to step it up once they got wind that competition was moving in, but unfortunately it feels like ATWT is going to have dropped out of everyone's minds with OLTL stealing people's hearts!

I recogonize ATWT's contribution to bringing a romantic gay couple to the show and commend them for it. HOWEVER, the show is simply resting on it's laurels and not striving forward, breaking new ground or even trying to tell interesting stories. That must and should be pointed out. There is much that can be done with this couple, but the show seems not interested in doing anything of substance with them. The proposed triangle seems the victim of rewrites and aborted storytelling and instead of being upset that the show is yet again refusing to do anything with this couple, many fans simply breathed a sigh of misguided relief that the show kept Luke and Noah in the dull status quo of mindnumbing togetherness..... which is the inherient problem with this couple, IMO. As someone who has watched this show for over 30 years and been a big fan of the character of Luke Snyder, it's really sad to see what has been done to the show in general and how Luke is a shadow of his former self.
I am loving OLTL these days.. Such a good soap! Nicholas is a tease though.
I get the scripts and I'm just like, "I'm going to do what?" It's really that level 10 excitement. "We're going to do that on TV?" I get excited every day about going to work.
That is just cruel. I want to know what's going on, right NOW! lol
Oh, and not much has happened on NRPP.. Diego hit Matias in the stomach, he deserved it though, being the homophobe that he is. And also Matias drugged two girls at the party, and was going to rape them, including his female teacher. He is disgusting. I'm scared for what might happen to Diego later too. I have a feeling Matias will get his revenge!
And also, something makes me think Miguel might be bisexual, or at least bi-curious. Juan said about Santi and Diego "look at those two girlfriends, they'll start to kiss at any moment" or something like that. Miguel replied that it would be interesting, as the normal parties are just so boring. Then he said that the gay porn market is huge, so they should concider filming them.. They have a little porn empire, don't even get me started. He also said to Dorothea, the female teacher, that he would "do" both her and her boyfriend. That is definitely not straight guy behaviour! lol
You have to watch the soap, last week was soooo good. Lots of drama, though not nearly enough S&D. Laura made her appearance at the party too. She brought a date, she's beautiful, and her name is Flora.
Like I said, the soap is definitely worth the watch, if not for S&D then just for the drama. I am loving all this drama the last few episodes.
I began watching this one about three weeks ago. The scene where Diego taunted Matias at the party was entertaining. Last night was sweet - with Diego comforting Santi in the hospital (because of his mother's botched plastic surgery .. lol!). He's now taking him off to pray. Hmmm. :-)
Both these guys are pretty good actors. Slowly, I'm starting to watch the whole darn thing. ¡Ay Dios mío!
great GOOL, I really missed it the past few weeks :)
I loved the interview with Nick, he seems like a really nice guy and I'm surprised that he is still filming, I'm guessing we won't be seeing Kish before Xmas then, A lot of waiting ahead. and did he say he filmed a love scene hmmm, I kinda wanted the first love scene to be between Kyle <3 and Fish but I guess Kyle deserve some action.
as for ATWT, seriously as much as i love nuke I'm really losing interest by the minute, will there be a love triangle or not?
the polls results are a bit surprising, Jake ahead of Van ( I always thought Van was more liked around here) and Brett over Scott ( scott is more of the hunky type)... I'm complaining since I voted for Jake and Brett anyway, Mr.Claywell is driving me crazy with his pretty face and sexy voice :D
I think I'm moving but I'm going no where
The fact that he's still around doesn't necessarily mean we won't see a Kish reunion before Christmas. He wouldn't necessarily disappear if Kish got back together. He could try to split them up, or simply hang around doing non-triangly stories.
No, I don't think it's likely either, but it's worth remembering. if they're committed to the three characters, it must mean they're putting some thought into what will happen to them once the triangle is resolved.
And sadly, I think I'm dropping ATWT, even though it's been on a quality upswing lately. I've just fallen behind on my soap watching. I now have 6 unwatched ATWT eps on my DVR, and the fall primetime season starts soon. So even though there's lots of characters I'll miss (none of them named Luke or Noah), I think it's time to let the show go.
Sigh. You were my first, ATWT, and I'll have fond memories even when I stop watching.
I didn't preview GOOL, and Anthony gave me no heads up that he had Thad as Stud of the Week. So here I was, minding my own business, rushing through the column because somebody's bugging me about finishing a post, and I get this great present.
So excuuuuse me if I yell a little, turn up some Kylie and dance around in a circle! ;-D
Poor Van, Jake, et al - having to be polled about their hotness after Thad being onscreen. No one can compare.
I'm glad you wrote a brief profile on him! If anyone on Y&R should have had a gay or bi story, it was him, as he has had some insane chemistry with other actors, especially Eyan Podell, who played Professor Korbel, or "Cowbell", as JT called him.
The relationship that really made JT mature was his love story with Colleen Carlton. The Victoria relationship just made him boring. I'm glad he seems to be more lively now. Sadly the show is so poorly written I cannot count on them to not have JT vanish for months, or get killed in a pointless stunt.
Do you remember that sex scene he had with Colleen after they decided to break up? So hot, especially when they were in the shower.
I never followed Y&R so I missed Eyal Podell's lengthy run there. The first time I recall see this extremely charismatic and attractive guy was on an old YouTubed episode of Undressed (made back in 1999) in which he played one half of a gay couple. It was a fun groundbreaking episode marred only by annoying background music.
He's had a lot of guest roles on tv in the years since but none stood out enough for me to really take notice again till his brief 4 episode stint on 24 earlier this year. Now, he's in the principal cast of the new sci-fi drama (dubbed Grey's Anatomy in space) on ABC, Defying Gravity, in which he has the role of the on-board physician/psychiatrist.
Thanks for the column Anthony. It's good to have you back. I know that everyone is KISH this and KISH that, but don't give up on our boys Luke and Noah. The Mason storyline has been slow but I think it's going to heat up. In the meantime, it's great to see Holden have a storyline, to see the Synder brothers return. I think the success of the KISH story (though I hear that many OLTL viewers are really complaining about it) will give ATWT motivation to spice up Luke and Noah's relationship. For now, I'm giving the boys that started it all, a second chance.
.... ATWT in general (and Luke and Noah in particular) has to deserve a second chance. Contrary to popular belief, I don't enjoy coming up with new ways to say how awful ATWT is every week. I WANT the show to be better. I WANT to be able to rave about the great storytelling, the wonderful acting, the delicious plot twists. And if the show gave me that, I'd be yelling the loudest each and every week and doing everything I can to make sure everybody was watching. The Mason storyline, such as it is, will soon be coming to a close, it seems (the latest spoilers are hinting that), which means that the guys will soon be on to a new storyline this time penned under the show's new co-head writer. I'm hoping that fresh eye and a different perspective might bring new life to Luke and Noah as characters and their story. I'd rather be positive and have something good to say than the opposite. I'd love it if it got to the point where I was torn which show to watch live that day (since ATWT and OLTL air at the same time) because they are both so good. So give me that, ATWT. I've got my fingers crossed.
.... I don't think so, but I'm not certain about that. It seems that the show has gone in a 'different direction'. And since I've heard rumors of a new storyline coming for the guys crafted by the show's new co-head writer, the proposed triangle may not be happening after all. Though it's possible that they may try and fix the current storyline. I guess we'll have to see. Next week, I'll be doing a Fall Preview of all the daytime soaps (like this week's report on the nighttime stuff), which will have more info on the future of L/N and all the other daytime soap couples.
I thought Whatsisname at TV Guide said that Mason/Forbes was going to be the big fo-shizzle of the Fall Season? He was hyping it up big time over the summer.
mentioned Forbes as the star of the show for the Fall season, but i don't know if he was serious or just a joke (he hyped a lot the Y&R gay storyline, and he lives to regret it).
I think Mason will stay for a while, i don't think he'll be part of a love triangle, but he probably continue to Nuke tradition of villains. They are maybe good guys, but all that they touch ends being evil, and Forbes March opted for play Mason a little creepy from the begining so i think he'll match with the classic Nuke villain, maybe he ends as a stalker
I'm staring at that picture of Antony Cotton and wondering where have I seen him before and it dawned on me. He was Alex on Queer as Folk UK. Man he was way skinny 10 years ago. lol
BTW...That Desperate Housewives promo shot looks weird without Edie and I'm not a big fan of Dana Delaney's.
I'm feeling all Nellie Forbush for Nicholas Rodriguez right now: I'M IN LOVE WITH A WONDERFUL GUY! Dare I say we have found our Latino Cheyenne Jackson???
Thanks SO MUCH for this interview, Anthony! Your best one thus far. ONE LIFE TO LIVE is really firing on all cylinders with this storyline, and I am so glad and proud that two gay men are playing the two sides of this upcoming triangle. Lucky Brett Claywell! I can't wait to see Scott Evans's Oliver and Rodriguez's Nick Chavez interact more with each other. I say if things come to a real impasse among Oliver, Kyle and Nick, then a 3-way it is! Props to OLTL's casting department for not going with another Oliver/Anglo/Blondie stand-in for the role of Nick and casting a Latino actor instead. (Our own gay Cristian Vega or is that redundant?). We have Claywell, the best actor to join the roster this year, and now Rodriguez, another gem. Hope Rodriguez and Nick do stick around for a long time. Oh, and I love how "helpful" Tuc Watkins has been to Nicholas. Man, to be a fly on the wall behind the scenes of that show. Between OLTL's sexy mofo Executive Producer, Frank Valentini, and his stable of hotter than hot actors...the mind goes to some dirty places...
As for the other shows, AWZ is steaming right now. Thank God Thom Chroust is rectifying the errors of parting DeRo.
What about my favorite couple, Chrolli/Ollian??? Thank God for the vLogs Das Erste puts out.
There have been some annoying stereotypes on EAST ENDERS and we still need to see a real love scene/kissing scene with Syed and Christian but I'm enjoying the story for the most part. It's a great dynamic they're playing over there with the Muslim/Anglo-Christian differences between the characters.
ATWT has really messed up big time. The Jude Law references were so ridiculously "out there" that it took me out of the scenes between Noah, Luke and Mason and the drama that the show was trying to telegraph. That story point became comical and it wasn't supposed to be! And it's a shame that this Mason storyline is DOA. I'll always say this: ATWT and Nuke have earned their places in history, but I think it's up to others now to continue the good fight and tell stories that properly honor the gay community and not make gay people look like mere cartoons.

I'm very impressed by the way the storyline has been developed so far. Great performances by all the characters involved and the delicious writing are making OLTL the soap to watch right now for me.
I'm beyond thrilled about the upcoming K-Nish triangle, especially after the new ATWT mess with Mason character.
Love your column Anthony, I'm glad that you're back
to be honest i never find Noah annoying till last week, boring yes, but not annoying, but last week scene was just too much. Poor Jake, at least he is finalist on the Adonis contest. I know a lot of people accusing him to not act at all, but that's not true, Jake is charming and interesting, and Noah, not. And it's good that he is charming, and that he has such a good relationship with Van, because the other way the bashing could be far worse.
I don't think ATWT plays the triangle either, in fact, i think all the triangle was a mistake from the begining. i'm not a fan of love triangles, and i know that a lot of people think that a love triangle for Nuke is being treated like the rest of characters, but in my opinion they need more passion and more romantic scenes first, and then just play the triangle. I think Mason probably end being an stalker, i always thought that they expect that for Brian, and changed the story. And Mason is being played a little creepy, so it fits, and maybe he can used the scarf to strangle Luke or to tie up Noah (there's must be a reason to wear a scarf in august)
Right now the relationship between Luke and Noah is almost the same that the relationship between Van and Jake in real life, they are really good friends but nothing more. They need to change the dynamics of the relationship, they are lovers not roommates.
Mason as part of the love triangle was a mistake, he is older, has authority, and his possible relationship with Noah would be illicit (and Noah is a guy who tell the dean the truth about the election, even when he knows what could happen to his beloved boyfriend). If they want a triangle, just bring them a guy of their age, make him be friend with both, test the chemistry, and them play the love triangle
Chickened out, or realized it wasn't working? I think it's better to abandon a storyline that isn't turning out, than to plow on. I'm okay with soap infidelity if it's done well, but if it doesn't work, it's just going to do more damage to a soap couple that are already on the ropes. If the other improved stories are the result of the new guy, I'd rather have him work on Nuke sooner rather than later, instead of continuing to dig Nuke deeper into their pre-existing hole.
I think it's a combination of both. And you have a point. The story clearly wasn't working so it's probably better to give the new guy a chance to start fresh. Let's just hope it's not fresh crap.
Hey CB,
Heh.......
It's a Nicholas Rodriguez jackpot!

<<I have a little hunch in me that says these other soaps would never have followed suit in including gay characters if ATWT's Nuke hadn't been so successful (however poorly done). For that, I thank ATWT and won't forget what they contributed to our world of daytime sudsy television. All I can say is that they had their chance to step it up once they got wind that competition was moving in, but unfortunately it feels like ATWT is going to have dropped out of everyone's minds with OLTL stealing people's hearts!>>
OLTL and NRPP
Thanks for all the scoop, Anthony.
You can watch the two latest S&D parts here:

Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
I definitely agree about NRPP
I began watching this one about three weeks ago. The scene where Diego taunted Matias at the party was entertaining. Last night was sweet - with Diego comforting Santi in the hospital (because of his mother's botched plastic surgery .. lol!). He's now taking him off to pray. Hmmm. :-)
Both these guys are pretty good actors. Slowly, I'm starting to watch the whole darn thing. ¡Ay Dios mío!
Yay! Another Santi and Diego shipper
I'm glad I'm not the only one here who likes Santi and Diego! lol
I agree, that scene in the hospital where Santi cries on Diego's shoulder because of his mom.. aww, it was just too cute!
Oh, and I definitely think AfterElton should write about this couple. *hint hint*

Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
Wow.
He gets to act opposite the crazy cute Scott Evans and gets "really big help" from Tuc Watkins?
I would very much like to trade lives with Nick Rodriguez. Who should I talk to about making this happen?
"I'm gonna cut a bitch!"
LOL! 'Atta Gurl. ;Þ
great GOOL, I really missed
great GOOL, I really missed it the past few weeks :)
I'm complaining since I voted for Jake and Brett anyway, Mr.Claywell is driving me crazy with his pretty face and sexy voice :D I think I'm moving but I'm going no where
Kish reunion (and ATWT)
JT Hellstrom
Sorry - he surprised me!
JT on Y&R
Eyal Podell
Luke and Noah and KISH
A Second Chance....
I've got my fingers crossed.
are you saying the
At This Point....
I thought Whatsisname at TV
Nelson Branco
mentioned Forbes as the star of the show for the Fall season, but i don't know if he was serious or just a joke (he hyped a lot the Y&R gay storyline, and he lives to regret it).
Antony Cotton
I'm staring at that picture of Antony Cotton and wondering where have I seen him before and it dawned on me. He was Alex on Queer as Folk UK. Man he was way skinny 10 years ago. lol
BTW...That Desperate Housewives promo shot looks weird without Edie and I'm not a big fan of Dana Delaney's.
Craig Kelly
Who played Vince Taylor in QaF is also now in coronation street, But he is not gay.
He is however going to be on the next series of "Strictly come dancing"
You can definitely tell who
A Wonderful Guy!
I'm so glad GOOL is back, baby!!!

KISH!!
I'm very impressed by the way the storyline has been developed so far. Great performances by all the characters involved and the delicious writing are making OLTL the soap to watch right now for me.
I'm beyond thrilled about the upcoming K-Nish triangle, especially after the new ATWT mess with Mason character.
Love your column Anthony, I'm glad that you're back
K-Nish
Olli!
I have a feeling...
...that VL is grooming Rebecca to be the new Olivia, Duesseldorf's resident young vixen, which I think is a mistake...
Jasmin Lord is no Kristina Doerfer that's for sure.
Welcome Back!
Noah
to be honest i never find Noah annoying till last week, boring yes, but not annoying, but last week scene was just too much.
Well....
I've seen the spoilers for next week's ATWT and it's clear the show chickened out on doing a triangle.
Wimps.
Triangles
Actually....
