Gays of our Lives (December 1, 2008)
Brian (Laurence Lau) and Luke (Van Hansis) have a heated As The World Turns – Luke tells Noah (Jake Silbermann) about Brian kissing him, but when Noah doesn’t believe it, Luke is hurt. As if that weren’t bad enough, Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) and Brian are moving to Snyder Farm (ummmm… doesn’t Lucinda have a mansion with servants and everything?) and Luke finds Brian’s close proximity disturbing. Predictably, Luke starts boozing again. Casey (Billy Magnussen) and Ali (Marnie Schulenberg) become so worried about Luke, (who only has one kidney, don’t forget) that they take him to the hospital for a checkup. And once there who should Luke run into, but Brian. Under the guise of protecting Luke, Brian smuggles the gay teen out of Oakdale Memorial and gives Luke the key to his hotel room at the Lakeview to sleep of his latest bender (uh-oh, into the Lion’s den!). Luke takes the chance to search Brian’s room. He finds a mysterious (and damning) letter from Brian’s ex-wife, Carolyn. Luke then pays a visit to the former Mrs. Wheatley (played by soap vet Marcia McCabe, who is the real life wife of ATWT Executive Producer Chris Goutman), who gives Luke some disturbing information about her former husband. Casualty – Can’t a fella just get laid? At first, Toby is happy about his tryst with Ben, but once word gets out, he becomes increasingly uneasy. Toby’s colleague (and former crush) Ruth thinks psychiatrist Ben took advantage of innocent, naïve Toby and that he only went gay because she rejected him. Before Toby knows it, Ruth (on Toby’s behalf) has lodged a complaint against Ben, who is summarily suspended from his duties at the hospital. Ben demands that Toby, umm, straighten the situation out, but Toby isn’t quite ready for everyone to know he’s a ‘mo, if that’s even who he is. Poor thing. Look for the story to come to a climax (or a head, pick your pun) during the two-part Christmas episode. But be warned, the end may not be pretty.
Casualty's Ben (Mark Letheren) and Toby (Matthew Needham) Brothers and Sisters – We previously reported that little Elizabeth gets ill and after it turns out that Kevin (Matthew Rhys) is the daddy, he donates a portion of his liver to save the child’s life. And while you’d think it would mean that would make things hunky dory between Tommy and Kevin, it only reignites the feud between the brothers.
"You expect me to be grateful that you saved my daughter’s
life? Meanwhile, Saul (Ron Rifkin) gets some screen action (not THAT kind, thank you!) when he and Tommy scheme to oust Holly from the family business (this just begs for a Dynasty-esque scene were Holly marches into the boardroom rocking some major shoulder pads). Plus, is the show finally building to the big moment where a member of the Walker family is rumored to die? Next March will bring us a special two-hour episode of the show (which is fine, no one will miss Desperate Housewives) in which a family member will face a life threatening illness. Is it too much to hope that between then and now Robert (Rob Lowe) changes his last name to Walker? I thought so. Gossip Girl – Is gay Eric (Connor Paolo) about to get a big (and impossibly good looking) brother? Maybe. One of soaps’ favorite plot devices (the surprise offspring) is about to come into play when it’s revealed (thanks to Eric’s digging into Mom’s past a few weeks back) that Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Matthew Settle) had a baby way back when, one that Lily never let Rufus know existed. She gave the baby boy up for adoption, but now that the truth is out, Lily and Rufus decide to find their kid. They track down the adoptive parents, who sadly inform them the boy died a few years ago in a sailing accident. The topper? The body was never found. Three guesses what that means . . .
