Since October of 2008, AfterElton.com has sponsored a weekly contest among television's gay characters and reality show personalities. Called "Battle of the Network Gays," the highest ranking vote-getter for the week is crowned the "Gay of the Week."

Certain perennial candidates have achieved such distinction and acclaim that it seems no longer fair for newcomers to the gay television landscape to compete with them. 

Thus, upon winning the Gay of the Week crown a seventh time (The Lucky Seven!) said gay receives his final crown and is retired here, in the Battle of the Network Gays / Gay of the Week Hall of Fame! Hall of Famers will then be entered into the Gay of the Year nominations in the annual Gay People's Choice Awards next February.
