“Brothers & Sisters” Episode 122 Recap: "Favorite Son"

Cut to Kevin’s office. He’s called Kitty in because, surprise, he’s decided to help her. He’s set up a meeting with the blackmailer, Daniel Cole.

Cole arrives and Kevin introduces himself as the Senator’s ad hoc counsel. Which I think is code for pretend counsel. Kevin has a big stack of folders wheeled in – all of them containing dirt on Daniel Cole. Child support orders, probation records, etc.

Kevin: Court records and Google, the gifts that just keep on giving

Kevin basically blackmails the blackmailer. He tells Cole to keep his mouth shut about the helicopter incident or he’ll go to jail.

Cole: Just because you’ve stopped me from telling people doesn’t mean it’s not the truth. The Senator’s a fraud.

That's it? This terrible problem is solved this easily? This better come back--say the day before the election, or I'm really going to be annoyed.

Cut to the Walker Mansion. Nora is crying in the kitchen and Rebecca walks in and startles her. Rebecca is packed and apparently about to move out. She’s heard about the twins and she figures Nora doesn’t need her under foot. Rebecca offers to make her some tea and serves her out of the same bowl in some Japanese ritual.

Nora is touched by Rebecca’s kindness. Rebecca says its something she learned in Chicago. Nora asks if something bad happened to her in the windy city, but Rebecca refuses to talk about it.

Nora tells Rebecca she can continue staying at the house as long as she wants.

Cut to Sarah and Joe’s house. They have the kids on the couch and are breaking the news that Joe is moving out. Cooper is all smiles – like someone just gave him a Game Boy or something. Paige however looks appropriately morose. That little girl can act.

Sarah: It’s really important that you understand that this is not because of you or anything that you did, okay? Mommy and Daddy love you both more than anything else in the world.
Paige: But you don’t love each other any more?
Joe: It’s kind of like a time out.
Cooper: Like when you do something bad? Did Daddy do something bad?

Actually yes, he sucked face with Rebecca right there on the couch. Sarah doesn’t get into specifics however and just tells the kids they’re having “grownup problems.” This seems to satisfy Coop, but Paige can read the writing on the wall – her parent’s marriage is over.
