“Brothers & Sisters” Episode 123 Recap: "Matriarchy"

Cut to McAllister’s Santa Barbara ranch. He and Kitty are on the bed making out. She is distracted by the Senator’s squishy midriff. Whoops, I mean bed. It bothers her neck. He tells her she can bring in her own mattress when she moves out to the ranch.

Kitty: Oh my God. Oh my God! Robert, I’m moving in! How am I gonna tell my mother that I’m moving out?

Oh please. I think Nora probably already has that figured out. Maybe Kitty’s sudden distress is all an act to get out of having sex with the Senator.

Cut to the Walker mansion the next day. Justin gets a phone call from Sgt. Hurrell of The Department of Combat Medic Training. (I think it might be the agency Michael Brown took over when he left FEMA.) Anyway, Hurrell is calling to remind Justin that he’s due to report on Sunday the 20th. Justin is frantic because he thought he was supposed to report two days later on the 22nd. He pleads with the Sergeant to give him two more days, but Hurrell is less than accommodating.

Justin: Oh please. Just one more day. They’re throwing this party because of me.
Sergeant Hurrell:
I am sorry son. The party’s over.

Cut to downstairs in the kitchen where Nora is going over the party guest list. Kitty walks in to get her morning coffee, and Nora complains to her about how many people McAllister has invited. Nora accuses McAllister of using the party as a campaigning event, but Kitty explains that all the people on the Senator’s guest list are actually related to him.

Nora: Were the McAllisters part of a breeding experiment? Listen to this. He’s invited “Major Weiner” Is that a joke?
Kitty:
No, that’s his favorite uncle. And it’s pronounced “Whiner”
Nora:
“Major Whiner?” I don’t know which one is worse.

Kitty tries to broach the subject of moving out, but Nora is distracted by all the work that’s going to go into the party.

Just then, Rebecca walks into the kitchen to get some breakfast. She’s sure made herself at home around there.

Nora asks Rebecca to invite Holly to the engagement party. Both Kitty and Rebecca look stricken. Kitty mouths to Rebecca: “No” and Rebecca tactfully tries to beg off, but Nora insists that they invite Holly. Rebecca agrees.

After Rebecca leaves the room, Kitty vents about the Holly invite.

Kitty: Mom! Don’t you remember the vineyard? I don’t want another pastry smackdown.

Speak for yourself, Kitty! I loved that food fight scene. I pretty much love every scene where Nora and Holly get into it. They are like Krystle and Alexis from Dynasty. All that’s missing are the Nolan Miller outfits.

Nora: Oh, that tension is all settled now.

Bummer. I was hoping they could milk it for a few more catfights.

Kitty tries again to broach the subject of moving out, but Nora suddenly remembers she has to find a venue for the engagement party. What, did she think the event was going to be held in cyberspace? Maybe they could rent out a cybercafé on Second Life or something.
