“Brothers & Sisters” Episode 123 Recap: "Matriarchy"

Cut to later at the Walker mansion kitchen where Kevin is breaking the news to Nora that they lost the banquet hall. Nora is upset but Kevin tells her not to worry – they found another venue. Somewhere nice and “homey”.

Looks like they’ll be having the party at the Walker mansion. Nora protests – there’s no room for all the guests! Kevin thinks quickly and tells her they’ll rent a tent.

Nora asks who he refers to by “they.” Kevin explains he’s been working with Jason McAllister to plan the party.

Uncle Saul overhears.

Saul: The Senator’s brother? But he hates you!
Kevin:
No he doesn’t it.
Saul:
Yes, he really does.
Kevin:
He does not hate me. It’s a secret crush turned inside out. Besides, we both share the gay party-planning gene so all you have to do is relax.

Nora relents and turns to Saul.

Nora: I forgot to tell you. Milo Peterman called. I invited him to the party.

This news seems to unnerve Saul.

Kevin asks who Milo Peterman is and Nora explains he’s an “old friend of Saul’s.”

Saul complains that they have too many guests already and this party “is no place for Milo Peterman.”

Nora doesn’t understand why Saul is so put out by her invite to Milo.

Nora: What’s one more guest at this point?
Saul:
Two more if he brings that bitch wife, Elaine.

Ooh, that’s a little catty. Is it possible that Saul and Milo Peterman have some sort of romantic past?

Nora: He’s not bringing Elaine. They got a divorce.
Saul:
They did?

Enter Sarah who announces that she doesn’t want to be the one to give the toast at the party. She’s always the one to give speeches.

Sarah: Let’s give someone else a chance.
Justin:
There’s a new one.
Sarah:
Oh shut it, dirt bag, It’s a little weird isn’t it? Me giving a toast about marriage given my current situation – it just feels like bad luck.

Tommy enters with takeout pizza. He tells them Julia isn’t coming to the party.

Nora has had it with all the bad news and tells everyone to shut up unless they have something good to announce.

Justin: We’re going to see Wicked.
Kevin:
Yay!
Tommy:
It’s not enough you’re going to Iraq?

Justin and Kevin leave for the theater and then Rebecca shows up to say that Holly has accepted the invitation and is coming. Not surprisingly, Sarah has a cow over this news.

Nora: Oh get over it. We’ve all moved on.
Sarah:
That’s easy for you to say, Mom. I haven’t had the chance to hurl food at her. Uh, no offense Rebecca.
Rebecca:
None taken.

Kitty shows up and Saul gives everyone a list of guests to call, but before they can start manning the phones, Kitty finally gets around to telling her Mom that she’s going to live with McAllister after the wedding. Nora doesn’t take it well and she and Kitty have a loud and fussy fight over it.

Sarah: It’s like the Passive Aggressive Olympics here today.

More like the Special Olympics, maybe.

Cut to the day of the party. Nora is in the kitchen putting together flower arrangements. Kitty and Jason walk up. Kitty’s in a pretty white dress and Jason looks very dashing but I’m wondering-- does the guy ever shave?

Nora and Kitty are still bickering over Kitty’s moving out and the Senator does his best to mediate. Their squabbling gets interrupted by the arrival of McAllister’s favorite uncle – Major Weiner.

Oh hey, its Garry Marshall. His Major Weiner is a bit of a letch—very grabby with Nora.

Other guests arrive and it’s a colorful collection of drunks, sluts, kleptomaniacs and juvenile delinquents. Oh the irony. The Walkers are now looking pretty dignified by comparison.
