"Brothers & Sisters" Episode 204 Recap: “States of the Union”Cut to later that evening at Milo Peterman’s house. He’s hosting a gay party. You can tell it’s gay because it’s all men and they’re drinking cosmos and touching one another’s hair. Uncle Saul enters with Milo and he’s uneasy because it’s a gay event. Either that, or he’s put off that everyone there is under thirty. (Aside from his interest in Saul, it looks like Milo’s a chicken hawk.)
Just as Saul is getting a drink to steel his closeted gay nerves, who should pop up but Scotty Wandell! He’s working the party as a cater-waiter. What, is he, like the only cater-waiter in LA? He spots Saul and re-introduces himself. Scotty: Remember? We met last year at the most awkward dinner party ever. The one with that fantastic mango peach salsa?
Saul looks very uncomfortable. Either he’s passing a kidney stone, or he knows this is going to get back to Kevin. Saul waves Scotty away. He wants nothing to do with Scotty’s memories of mango peach salsa or his sad little tray of duck rellenos with jalapeno relish. Not sure I blame him. Aside here to gripe about what they are doing to our poor Scotty. He’s turning into a caricature, what with all the cater-waitering and his obsession with frou frou cuisine. Cut to Sarah’s house. She’s folding laundry when Kitty barges in all animated. Kitty has this great idea for a spa getaway. She’s booked the two of them at a luxury resort up in Ojai. What she doesn’t realize is that Nora is helping Sarah with her laundry. Nora walks in and overhears. Turns out Nora already made plans to celebrate Sarah’s anniversary with an Ingmar Bergman retrospective. What fun! Kitty makes an obsequious apology. Of course, if Sarah already has plans she’ll cancel the spa trip. Clearly, the intent is to guilt Nora into letting Sarah out of the prior engagement. It works, but maybe too well. Nora goes on and on about how lovely the Ojai resort is, what with all the hiking and horseback riding, the high colonics, etc. Nora: Oh, your father and I used to go up there all the time. Out of obligation, Kitty and Sarah are forced to invite Nora on the trip as well. It’s a Walker women spa getaway.
Cut to Chez Frou Frou – that fancy French restaurant where Scotty works as an intern and apparently has complete run of between meal services. He’s serving yet another meal to Kevin on the stainless steel prep line. Forgive me, but that looks like no fun at all. Does Scotty ever get away from food service?
