"Brothers & Sisters" Episode 205 Recap: “Domestic Issues"

Lena interrupts to bring Tommy a sandwich. Holly looks on suspiciously. See, Lena, I warned you!

When Tommy leaves, Holly calls Lena back in to lecture her about being involved with Tommy. Lena says it’s a moot point — whatever was going on between her and Tommy has already ended.

Cut to Sarah’s house and, in stark contrast to Holly’s deflated cleavage of the previous scene, Sarah looks like she’s had breast augmentation. Oh wait, those are pumpkins.

Sarah gets a call from Mrs. Fletcher, who must be one of Paige’s teachers. Sarah hems and haws and then gets around to asking Mrs. Fletcher for a letter of recommendation about what a good parent she is. Imagine Sarah’s surprise when Mrs. Fletcher tells her that Joe asked for a similar letter over a month ago.

Cut to a short time later at Joe’s house. Sarah has stormed up to Joe’s front porch to give him a piece of her mind.

Sarah: You are incredible. You got to all of them. Mrs. Fletcher, Dr. Watson, our dance instructor, our neighbors. Joe, how long have you been planning this?

Sarah, the better question is: How come none of these people mentioned Joe’s letter of reference request to you? The fact that no one called to tip Sarah off is pretty damning evidence. Maybe Joe really is the better parent? I’m beginning to think so. True, she wasn’t making out with someone twenty years younger than her, but still.

Joe: Sarah, believe it or not — this is not about you. It’s about the kids and they need some stability.

Paige comes out to see what all of the ruckus is about. Joe sends the munchkin back to her room and then shuts the door on Sarah.

Cut to the Walker mansion. Justin is on the couch eating popcorn when Kevin walks in looking for the letter reference Nora wrote for Sarah.

Justin tells him he thinks Kitty is pregnant. Kevin doesn’t believe him at first, but Justin explains that their mom went “in the pantry.”

Kevin: She went all the way in?
Justin: All the way in.
Kevin: Wow. I’m gonna be an uncle again.

Cut to Sarah’s house. She’s carving a pumpkin with Coop. She asks Paige to join in but little miss mopey-face says “no thank you” and plants herself on the couch with a Harry Potter book. (I guess she’s still reeling from the news about Dumbledore.) Sarah sends Coop off to bed and goes to sit beside Paige. She asks what’s wrong, and Paige admits she hates it that “you and Daddy are fighting over who we’re gonna live with.” Sarah tells her not to worry. “I’ve got a plan to take care of daddy,” she says ominously. Okay, not really.

Sarah: Worrying is my job. Yours is to have fun, okay?

If that’s true, how come Paige keeps getting stuck in such grim storylines?

Cut to the winery. Tommy is working late. Do these people ever cut out at five? Tommy is on the phone with Julia. (Hey, he finally got hold of her.) Tommy tells her he’s spending Halloween watching the Republican presidential debate at Nora’s house. See what you’ve driven him to, Julia? The other line beeps and Tommy hangs up with Julia.
