"Brothers & Sisters" Episode 207 Recap: “36 Hours”

Cut to a folksy barbecue joint in Iowa. McAllister, Travis, and the Bad Seed are having lunch with the king of pork, who looks a bit like Mr. Clean on heroin.

While they’re chowing down on their pulled pork plates he’s giving them a lecture on trichinosis, cross contamination, salmonella, and the other dangers of imported meat. Bad Seed speaks for all of us when she says “Eww.”

McAllister: Which is why I voted to raise tariffs on imports.
King Pork: Which is why I’m raising money hand over fist to get you elected.

Travis tells McAllister that King Pork has personally bundled over a hundred thousand dollars in individual contributions, which I guess makes him a big deal.

McAllister: Iowa is a “must win” state for us, so I appreciate anything you can do.

Oh, then I’m so hoping McAllister doesn’t win Iowa. That would mean this whole misguided Presidential campaign storyline is over, right?

King Pork notices Bad Seed picking at her food and asks her why she hasn’t touched her ribs. She says she’s a vegetarian, and that eating meat is “cruel to animals and also bad for the environment.”

Travis: (nervous laughter) Kids today! I don’t know where they get these crazy ideas.

Travis quickly steers the conversation to safer waters, and tells King Pork they’re worried about their main opponent, Governor Burgess. King Pork tells them not to worry about Burgess — he and his pork business cronies sent out a direct mail flyer trashing the man. Probably in the local Penny Saver.

King Pork calls over a photographer and asks for a photo op of him shaking McAllister’s hand. McAllister agrees and stands to get his picture taken.

King Pork: (while smiling for camera) I want you to promise me you’ll try the creamed corn next time you come.
McAllister: (oozing insincerity) You bet. My mouth is already watering.

Eww. Creamed corn. It’s like reheated vomit.

Travis leads King Pork away and McAllister at last can turn his undivided attention to Bad Seed. When she mentions an “older” boyfriend he gets seriously alarmed and cancels all his campaign stops so he can spend the rest of the day with her.

Cut to Saul calling Holly at home. He hasn’t been able to find Tommy and wonders if she might have any ideas where his nephew might be. She tells him to try Lena’s place.

Holly: She doesn’t stop working on weekends, if you know what I mean.

Cut to Lena’s apartment where Tommy is giving Lena a foot massage.

Lena: You keep this up and I might never let you leave.

Uh oh, that kind of comment is an early warning signal for a Fatal Attraction-type.

Lena’s home phone rings. Her mom is the only one that calls it, so she picks up. It’s Saul. He asks if she knows where Tommy is. She says she doesn’t, but he says it’s an emergency, “It’s about his brother.” Tommy reluctantly takes the call

Tommy, you are so busted.
