"Brothers & Sisters" Episode 208 Recap: “Something New”

Sarah gets a cell call. It’s that Graham Finch guy (Steven Webber), who wants to apologize for coming on a little too strong at their meeting. He wants to take her to dinner to further discuss what he can do for Walker Produce. She agrees.

She hangs up in time to see Kitty go gaga over a wedding dress she spies on a nearby rack. Both Rebecca and Sarah think it’s lovely but Kitty thinks, since she already has her mother’s dress to wear, that trying it on will be like cheating.

Talk to Kevin about that. There’s cheating and then there’s cheating. Sometimes a little cheating is a good thing.

Speaking of which….

We cut across town to Kevin’s apartment. He’s home from work and finds Scotty putting on his workout clothes.

Kevin: Headed to the gym?
Scotty: Have to. Working in a restaurant demands it. Or you end up with…
Kevin: Love handles, I know. Like me.
Scotty: I think we’ve already established I have no problems with your body.
Kevin: Nor I yours. Look, about last night…
Scotty: You don’t have to say anything. I know your boyfriend is a million miles away, and I was a warm body after a lobster dinner. Add champagne and voila. Mistake sex.

Hey, to my way of thinking the only part about last night that was a mistake were the matching lobster bibs.

Kevin: What if it wasn’t a mistake?
Scotty: Kevin, you don’t have to make me feel better by turning yesterday’s nostalgic sex romp into something that it wasn’t.

Scotty consoles Kevin and tells him everything will be all right. Last night was a one-time thing.

Cut to a dark, deserted street. Stan Harris (Chevy Chase) is in a MG convertible with Nora. I hope that is not his regular car. The guy is like 6’ 4” and he looks like he’s getting ready to participate in one of those Shriner parades, where the guys in the funny fez caps tool around in those little clown cars.

Nora is confused about why they’ve stopped in front of a particular abandoned building. Me, I think it has something to do with why Bob Dylan is playing on the soundtrack.

Nora: What did you bring me out here for? A gang initiation?

Oh, I wish. Can you imagine Nora getting initiated into a gang? They make her participate in a drive by shooting and then tattoo her arm with “Crips Forever.” That’s what Nora needs, a bit of street cred, and Sally Field could tear a scene like that up!
