“Brothers & Sisters” Episode 211 Recap: “Missionary Imposition”

Scotty: Kevin, tell him how well I do soft shell crabs
Kevin: Scotty, I don’t think that Jason wants to…
Jason: I’d love to.

Cut to a San Francisco hotel lobby. Sarah, hoisting a huge basket of orchids, knocks on Graham’s door. She’s all persnickety that he’s trying to woo her with flowers. She shoves the basket back at him.

Sarah: This was really inappropriate, and I can’t accept. Now where do you want them?

Graham opens his hotel room door wider and you see an identical floral arrangement sitting on the dresser behind him.

Graham: (smiling) I guess I’ll just put them next to mine.

It turns out the flowers are actually a gift from the hotel. This is a jaw-droppingly embarrassing moment for Sarah – made worse by the fact that she has big curler in her bangs that makes her look like a deranged cockatiel.

Graham: You know that little chocolate on your pillow? It’s not from me either.
Sarah: This is awkward
Graham: Uh, not for me.

Ha!

Cut to Nora’s bedroom. She’s invited Rebecca over to help her find a dress to wear for her date with Isaac. Okay, that’s a little weird. I suppose next Holly will drop by to help her pick out some shoes.

Nora lets slip that Justin is still dating Lena. This is news to Rebecca, who by outward appearances seems to want to keep her half-brother all to herself. It’s very incestuous, and made more so by the news that Emily Van Kamp and Dave Annable are dating in real life.

Cut to moments later downstairs where Rebecca has gone to find Justin. While he’s making a grilled cheese sandwich, she grills him about the fact that he’s still a regular visitor to Lena’s futon.

Rebecca: Don’t you care about the fact that she slept with Tommy? The bottom line is you’re hurting people Justin, and you’re going to get hurt.

Cut to a boardroom in San Francisco, where Sarah and Graham are meeting with the entire executive team of the Golden Plum corporation.

Sarah starts off with a greeting in Mandarin Chinese that she probably memorized from a Berlitz tape. It’s really excruciating, and made all the more awkward when the president of Golden Prune responds with an entire monologue in his native tongue.

Sara just nods and looks panicked. She looks around desperately for an interpreter, but then Graham pipes up to respond to Mr. Lao in perfect Mandarin. At least I think it’s perfect Mandarin. He might just as easily be placing an order for Peking duck and I wouldn’t know any better. You know, maybe the show should’ve sprung for subtitles here.
