"Brothers & Sisters" Recap Episode 215: "Moral Hazard"

Nora shows up to talk to Sarah, and tells her that Saul came clean about what really happened, and they have a heart to heart about Sarah's dad, and his expectations of her. Sally and Rachel are two great actresses, and frankly, I don't think they have enough scenes together.

Rebecca comes home, and after a little goading from Holly, tells her that she knows that William Walker was not really her father, and that it was actually that guy who used to be hot but is now kind of chunky from thirtysomething. Holly says "I didn't know", and they get into a good ol' fashioned finger pinting, hair tossing, tears welling fight, which culminates in Holly using the word "audacity" (which I love using in fights), and telling Rebecca that she wasn't welcome in her house anymore.

Kevin is about to leave his office, and while he's on the phone to Scotty, receives a collect call from Saul...who's in jail.

"Thank you for this, Brothers & Sisters"

Cut to Kevin and Saul in the car, after Kevin has bailed him out. They have the first of the two classic scenes in this episode, and Ron Rifkin and Matthew Rhys both deserve Emmy nods for this.

Kevin: Everybody screws up, Saul. But that's no excuse to treat yourself with absolutely no respect.
Saul: Kevin, I was fingerprinted and locked in a drunk tank. What is there left to respect?
Kevin: How about me? How about the people who love you? Whatever it is you did to Ojai, it's no excuse to drive your car into a tree.
Saul: I didn't risk Ojai Foods to make money, Kevin. I did it to try and save my life. I want out. I want to be free.
Kevin: Just say it. I love you, and it's okay.
Saul: I'm a gay man, Kevin. Tell me how I can be a gay man at my age.
Kevin: I don't know how to be a gay man at my age. But I do understand that you're afraid.
Saul: I want my time back.
Kevin: That's the one trick none of us can pull off. Saul, if you think this family is going to sit back and watch you waste the time you do have punishing yourself...you're mistaken.

Speaking only for myself, it's scenes like that that give me a small glimmer of hope for American television.

Tommy and Holly are discussing the proposal, and Holly thinks she might be able to work (see, I KNEW she was up to something)

"Don't Eff with me, boys!"

They meet with Sarah and Nora, and Holly tells them that she has her own proposal. Sarah immediately smells something rotten and it's not cabbage the oafish truck driver left out in the sun all day. Holly proposes Ojai Foods will merge with Walker Landing, with Sarah and Tommy as co-Presidents.., and Holly will be CEO and Chairman. That means she'll have the final word in all decisions.

Sarah protests, but Holly is all "I HAVE CONTROLLING INTEREST IN DENVER-CARRINGTON!", and seriously, I haven't seen shoulder pads like that since Alexis and Krystle were throwing down in the fish pond. Nora isn't too happy, but agrees, and eventually Sarah realizes there is no way out, and has no choice.

"You can do me now!"

Rebecca arrives to see Justin, and he mumbles his way through more awkward incest dialogue, until Rebecca finally put him out of his misery, and confesses that she is not really his sister. He blows up at her, accusing her of being a liar just like her mother, and demands that she leave as soon as they have hot we're-not-siblings-but-this-still-feels-wrong sex. Oh, not really, but poor Justin, just can't catch a break on this show. He should hook up with Casey from As The World Turns. Oohh...now that'll butter your popcorn!
