"Brothers & Sisters" Episode 301 Recap: “Glass Houses”BTW, in honor of this casual weekend, the two of them have decided to dress like a pair of aging queens who’ve retired to South Beach. Kevin’s pants are a particularly alarming shade of salmon and make me want to shout at the TV, “Hey, Kevin! Just because you’re out of the closet doesn’t mean those pants should be!”
But, all snarking aside, it’s absolutely adorable seeing them all happy and couple-y together and enjoying this quiet moment alone before more Walker madness.
I’m glad Kevin appreciates him. Honestly, Scotty’s also much nicer than I would ever be. I can’t for the life of me figure out what exactly Kevin’s family has done for them to make Scotty so appreciative, other than show up for their cut-rate commitment ceremony that was conveniently held in the very house where they’re always hanging around eating and drinking for free anyway. We move on to a veritable parade of Walkers, as each family member makes their individual entrance and oohs and aahs over the house — a sequence that feels like it takes an entire weekend to get through and we haven’t even made it to brunch. However, it is highly amusing to see Kevin’s nervous reactions to his family of heathens and their blatant disregard for using coasters.
When Tommy comes in, Sarah is all pissy with him. She tells him she didn’t expect to see him there and wonders when he’s going to can Kevin. Tommy, in turn, ignores Sarah and goes to tell Kevin how impressed he is by the house. Kevin says it’s all “the life of a partner.” Since Ojai is the reason he may soon become a partner himself, he’s giving Tommy the master bedroom. If it were anyone else, I’d say this would make them feel guilty. But, as always, I have no clue what Tommy’s feeling about any of this. Paige creeps up on Justin and demands that he pour Cooper a soda. Apparently, she’s taking time out from killing puppies and drowning schoolmates who won penmanship medals to mess with her uncle. When Justin says he doesn’t think their mother would allow that, Paige says, “You wouldn’t want her finding out about you and Rebecca, would you?” Heh heh. Between the blossoming Crystal-Alexis rivalry on the Holly-Nora front and this Bad Seed redux with Paige, the storylines this episode have dramatically increased the show’s camp quotient and, by extension, overall awesomeness.
Inside the master bedroom, Julia wonders what bug climbed up Tommy’s ass to put him such a cranky mood, when Nora comes in. I’m not quite sure what happens in this scene because I’m distracted by the blinding day-glow clothing they’re all wearing — Tommy in lime-green, Julia in lemon-yellow, and Nora in strawberry-red. It’s like they’re on their way to a Halloween party dressed as a box of Skittles.
After Julia leaves, Nora lays into Tommy for letting Holly get his balls in a vise. So Tommy sets her straight that it was in fact his idea to fire Kevin. Nora is totally right here, as she is in most things, in telling Tommy he simply can’t treat his own brother this way. I mean, it’s Bro’s before Ho’s, right? As in Brothers before Holly.
