Doctor Who Finale Part 3 Recap: “Journey’s End”

Unfortunately, Davros would rather gloat than get some nookie. Seeing how unhappy the Doctor is with all the companion-led threats going on, he says the first part of Dalek Caan’s prophecy is being fulfilled — the Doctor’s soul is being revealed …

Davros: You take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons. Behold your “Children of Time” transformed into murderers. I made the Daleks, Doctor. You made this.

He does have a point. But it’s a totally dumbass point, and I can’t believe the Doctor is taking this seriously. Yes, his companions are threatening violence. But it hardly compares to Davros’ little plan to destroy all lifeforms in all worlds throughout the universe. I mean, there’s a little more at stake here than humanity. Like the puppies. Who will think of the sweet, innocent puppies!

To drive his point home, Davros mentions how Harriet Jones recently died trying to save the Doctor, and asks him to remember all the others who died thanks to him. Which leads, naturally, to flashbacks of all the people/creatures who’ve died during the series run, a sequence that’s about as cheery as the dead-people montage on the Oscars. Remember to applaud loudest for your favorite dead alien!

The Daleks take advantage of the dead-people flashbacks as a distraction and teleport Martha, Jack, Sarah Jane, and the others into the Vault, where they are surrounded and subdued. D’oh! So much for all those plans.

Davros and Caan gloat that, as per prophecy, the Doctor and “his children” have been gathered together again. Then the Daleks start revving up the Reality Bomb for its universal wipe-out. It all gets very intense and dramatic, with the Doctor begging them to stop, and Davros laughing evilly, and all the energy building up via the stolen planets. And then …

… and then the TARDIS deus ex machina’s its way into the Crucible. Doc Two exits, leading everybody to gape in wonder. Except for Jack who, seeing two Doctors in the flesh, grins happily. I don’t think I have to spell out what he’s imagining.

Doc Two, who apparently lost a few brain cells during his energy exchange with Donna, decides the smartest move is to madly rush Davros. Davros, in turn, simply points a finger and shoots a bolt of electricity at Doc Two, sending him falling to the ground where another holding cell is placed around him. So much for that plan.

But wait! Here comes Donna to save the day! Except Davros points a figure and zaps her too. Well, so much for that plan.

The countdown to Reality Bomb detonation resumes. Davros laughs evilly again. And then …
