Glee recap (1.07): "Throwdown"

I had a few concerns following last week's episode. "Throwdown" blew any doubts I may have had out of the water. In my opinion (the only one that counts since I write the recaps), this was the strongest episode so far. It was well-written, well-plotted, well-acted, and had a great balance of music to story.

The episode starts out with Will and Sue screaming at each other in the auditorium. They scene is filmed in slow motion while they voiceover narration. Sue: "Look at me. I'm elegant even in battle." Will tells us that they've been at each other's throats since a few days before when they met with Figgins for a progress report on their co-chair arrangement. Will is trying to curry favor, but Sue is taking a different tack. She is trying to pit them against each other in an effort to create such a toxic environment that they want to quit.

Figgins won't let them leave his office until Will and Sue "hug it out." They balk, but finally give it. As the embrace, Will hisses, "I will destroy you." Sue responds, "I’m about to vomit down your back."

Quinn and Finn are in the doctor's office. She's having a girl. Finn goes out to the waiting room where Will is waiting for them. He drove them to the appointment. Finn tells Will that the baby is healthy. "No mutations. Not even any cool ones." Finn is concerned about how he's going to take care of a real person. "My mom won't even let me have fish." Finn wants to keep the baby, even though Quinn is determined to give it up for adoption.

Jacob, the nerdy school gossip blogger, corners Rachel and tells her he's going to blog about Quinn's pregnancy and tell everyone that Finn is the father. He blackmails her to keep the story quiet, but we don't know the terms of the blackmail...yet.
