"Glee" recap (1.21): "Funk"

What’s this? There's no special guests this week? No special theme artist like Madonna or Gaga? Actually, that’s alright by me. In the past, I've thought Glee shines more when it's not confined by these structures. Will it do so again tonight?

We start out by learning that Jesse has defected back to Carmel High and Vocal Adrenaline. He's mad because New Directions never accepted him or took any of his ideas. Plus, all the blogs and websites are saying Vocal Adrenaline lost their edge and are going to lose. This prompts Jesse and Company to take over McKinley High's auditorium and they're performing Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" with Jesse on lead.

Um, because students from a rival school can just waltz in and take over the stage? Shot. Oh, and they also TP'd the choir room.

Ah, it turns out Sue gave them keys and helped them do a sound check over the weekend. Because that makes sense. Well, then, belief suspended a-a-a-and we're moving on.

Now Sue wants to take over the choir room to use as her trophy room. Will kicks her out, but she tells the kids that according to her Vegas bookie, they're going to lose and lose badly. Because Vegas bookies are really concerned with high school show choirs in small town Ohio. It's a little known, but very lucrative side business. What? You didn't know that? Shot.

Will smashes Sue's trophy in a fit of testosterone-fueled rage and it's ... super sexy. But then Sue kills the moment by talking about herpes and flare-ups. Not sexy. And apparently, Sue has talented herpes? I don't want to think about this any more.

Moving on, Will and Teri are signing their divorce papers. That seems fast, but why should that be realistic when nothing else on this show is? No shot needed. We'll let this one pass. Besides, I don't know Ohio divorce law. Maybe they have some quickie divorce loophole I don't know about. I'm hardly a law expert.
