Project Runway 407 Recap: "What a Girl Wants"

On to the runway, where we met this week's guest judge, furrier and designer Gilles Mendel, who is famous for having a white mink sofa in his apartment. I will let you draw your own conclusions on any number of issues raised by that fact.

Sweet P's design was first, worn by Nicole. I won't lie or try to hide my feelings: This dress was completely, totally, and utterly made of every bit of win and awesomeness that has ever been infused into a prom dress in the history of design.

It was a long, silvery sweep of charmeuse that Rita Hayworth could have worn walking down the red carpet at some iconic Academy Awards celebration in the Golden Age of Hollywood. I'm not even a big Sweet P fan, and she barely hung on by her fingernails last week, but this dress? This dress was the dress. And Nicole knew it, her dark hair cascading down her bare back in loose curls, her candelabra earrings brushing her shoulders, kicking her train behind her like she was born on the runway. Win all around.

Victorya Hong's model, Jessica, flounced out in a bright blue, modern sleeveless mini dress crusted with big faux jewels at the neckline that was nothing at all like what she asked for. Fortunately not only did she love it and look great in it, but it worked. I'm not quite sure it was particularly prom-like, but that can be a good thing. Jessica flashed a little peace sign at the camera as she made her turn, and couldn't have looked happier with her bad self.

Chris' girl Krista was next, in a long sweep of pale green charmeuse with a most beautiful pleated train in the back. The front was lovely, but would have looked better with a more revealing bodice – something probably not a good idea for a teenager. But the back? The back was just stunning.
