Project Runway 408 Recap: "En Garde!"

Although there was a lot of footage of interpersonal dynamics this week, and that's not something I normally enjoy, I was actually intrigued by the Jillian/Victorya working relationship. It started out cold, but professional. They clearly knew they weren't a dream team, but put on their big girl panties and dealt. Each woman admitted she didn't want the other to be team leader, and they agreed to flip a coin. They spoke, albeit in clipped terms, about how to navigate their rocky relationship, and then you know what?

They did what they said they'd do and got the job done, and came out of the whole thing looking like they got along a whole lot better than they did going in. You go, girls, with your tight lips and oh yeah, the "apocalyptic and dramatic trench coat" you decided to design.

At the other end of the spectrum was what Tim Gunn dubbed "Team Fierce," or the wild and crazy Chris and Christian pairing. If ever two designers have had a more adorable rapport, more fun with their challenge, and did more to bring out the absolute best in each other, I can't think who it could be.

Ricky and Kit also worked well together; "It's the girl in me and the bitch in you," Ricky told Kit, laughing. Unfortunately, given that both of them have a tendency toward forgettability in their designs and there was no real competitiveness between the two of them to push either out of their comfort zones, it didn't get us anywhere, design-wise.
