Project Runway 412 Recap: "The Finalists Take to the Tents"

She took Tim to visit her family on Long Island. "Of course," she laughed flirtatiously to the camera, "all the great American designers are from Long Island – Michael Kors, Donna Karan and… Jillian Lewis."

Tim next is shown in Los Angeles visiting Rami. I've read on the gossip websites that Jeff, the man he introduced to Tim as his "best friend," is actually his partner. Far be it from me to devalue the BFF relationship, but if in fact Jeff is Rami's partner, I wish he'd said that.

His collection reflected the express advice of the judges to show them something new and different. He went militaristic, with a red caped blouse that I would kill for. He said his inspiration was Joan of Arc, but the gold coat he showed Tim, and the similar blue one he sent down the runway later, looked like they were designed by Jillian.

And in fact, the Joan of Arc drawings and reproductions he had tacked up on his studio wall? They looked a lot like Jillian, too – one of them eerily so.

It's back to New York City for a visit to Chris March. Chris ruminated on how to integrate his costume designer sensibility with the fashion world. "I don't want to send a costume parade down the runway, but I don't want it to be 'not me' either," he told the camera.

Now, let's confront the human hair issue. Chris used human hair to trim out several pieces in his collection. For some reason, this creeped out Tim, the judges, and many viewers. And I don't get it. If this was yak hair, they'd be fine with it? Don't they see models every day of their professional lives who have human hair weaves, clip-in extensions, falls, and wigs? Do they pale and feel like vomiting when Dolly Parton or Cher sashay into the spotlight in human hair wigs?

Chris said he used it to heighten the Goth/dark theme with which he was working, but my guess is that it was more economical. And I’m not even saying I liked the trim, because really, I didn't. It's not me. But it didn't creep me out – which, I'm sorry to say, yak hair really would have.

The weeks pass, and then we're back in New York for the Rami/Chris competition. Jillian and Christian are rooming together, while Chris and Rami share digs. The four of them seemed to get along really well, despite Jillian's voiceover speculation that Christian doesn't like her.

Jillian and Rami commiserated about stress levels, while Chris assured Christian he tells everyone who asks that the younger designer really isn't all that annoying. Awww, Chris, you say the sweetest things.
