Project Runway 412 Recap: "The Finalists Take to the Tents"I didn't really enjoy the judges' comments, but it was equally clear that they knew that either of the designers could have gone on to Bryant Park (well, in fact, they both did, but that's another story).
Then they asked Chris why he should go to Fashion Week. He responded, "I think that it might be interesting to have a point of view from outside the fashion world. Personally, I think my head would just blow off. I don't know." Remember this; it will matter later.
Then they moved on to Rami's designs. Nina praised the draped dress and criticized the coat. Michael pointed out the evening gown wasn't very practical and the fit in the hip area wasn't very flattering. Nina brushed that aside, calling the dress "a fantasy."
Then Heidi asked Rami why he should go to Fashion Week, and he replied, "This is who I am, this has been my calling since I was six years old." He sounded controlled but emotional. This is the moment when, in my opinion, Rami won this competition. I don't think either collection dominated. Both were brilliant and interesting. I believe they chose Rami because in that moment he positioned himself as a fashion designer first, last, and foremost, whereas Chris identified himself as a fashion outsider. Michael, Nina, and Heidi even talked about how there have been successful designers who came from a costume design background, but Michael didn't look convinced. Notice how I slipped the fact that Chris lost in there? It's because I couldn't really say it; I'm still in denial. I can't tell you how much I was pulling for Chris, and wanted to see him continue in the competition. I know he did show at Bryant Park. I'm sure this exposure did nothing but good for his career, and his classy post-auf interview didn't make him look too upset with the outcome.
But my interest in the final winner just went down a notch. So, who will it be? Jillian, Christian, or, Rami, and why? Distract me from my grief with your guesses. Submitted by on Thu, 2008-02-28 17:06. |

Klump Junta Strikes Again
i could not.......
I knew it. It was so obvious
It was painfully obvious
It was painfully obvious they wanted Rami in the finale competition. I don't really know what they have against Chris but I doubt he could've done anything to satisfy the judges and get in the final three.
Well, I'm not sure if anyone
Nose Jobs and Puffy Shirts
Sex on a stick, but no talent
Don't you see that's why people are so bitter about Rami staying and Chris going? Rami may be sex on a stick, and that is the only reason he is one of the top three. If Chris looked like Rami (or if Rami looked like Chris), Chris would have been going to Fashion Week officially.
I don't know if it was Nina, Michael, Andy Coen, or all of the above that wanted sleep with Rami, or if the producers thought that gay men and straight women would be so turned by him they would forgive his total lack of creativity. Either way, it was his sex appeal that kept him on the show, NOT talent.
RJ88 Is off base with this comment
"Rami may be sex on a stick, and that is the only reason he is one of the top three. If Chris looked like Rami (or if Rami looked like Chris), Chris would have been going to Fashion Week officially. "
RJ88--I think you're really off-base here. Sex appeal has NEVER been the critieria on this show. The finalists are NEVER the sexiest. If you look at the past finalists it will certianly confirm this.
Also, to say Rami has no talent is just silly. His dresses are always stunning even if they're not especially innovative.
Did he Show at Fashion week?
Sweet Pea and Chris???
annoyed
Jeff: Rami's boyfriend?
Re: "Now, let's confront
Re: "Now, let's confront the human hair issue. Chris used human hair to trim out several pieces in his collection. For some reason, this creeped out Tim, the judges, and many viewers. And I don't get it. "
Well, for me and most of the people with whom I have discussed this, much as we adore Chris, our initial instinctive reaction was total revulsion because it immediately brought back thoughts of the fabric, blankets, etc. the Nazis made of human hair.
That said, however, when I stopped and thought about it, I was fine with it, because like the many natural human hair wigs and hair extensions used these days, this hair was presumably obtained voluntarily, and the reason behind using it in these contexts comes from an entirely different place than those acts of horror.
