"Project Runway" 6.12 Recap: "The Art of Fashion"
After the runway the judges, including guest judge Cindy Crawford, all pretty much sit there dumbstruck. You can tell that they aren't wowed by any of the dresses except for maybe, possibly the front (and not the back!) of Gordana's. Cindy Crawford certainly looks good these days, but she doesn't add very much to the judging panel aside from decoration. (Now give us Milla Jovovich any day!) When the designers are called out on the runway Heidi has an interesting question for Christopher:
"Are you confident in this as your final challenge look?" Careful how you answer that Christopher. It's a trick question! I think Heidi was hoping he'd say he was disappointied with how that stiff, long denim skirty dress turned out. Instead, Christopher gets all weepy, overly earnest, and tries to wear that ugly dress as a badge of honor. "This piece speaks more about me than any other piece I put down the runway." He says. "Everybody else's inspiration was a beautiful piece of art ... and mine was a rock ... not everyone would see the beauty in that." Yeesh. At this point I really just want to shake Christopher and tell him to snap out of it, but it's too late — you just know he's already eliminated himself. The judges give the first golden ticket to Irina. No surprise there. Then they mercifully dispatch Christopher. Carol Hannah gets the second Bryant Park slot, and that leaves Gordana and Althea to duke it out for the last spot.
The judges rake Althea over the coals for her disappointing dress this week, but ultimately they send her to Bryant Park on the basis of her consistently strong work. Arguably, Gordana had the best dress on the runway this week, so it seems a little unfair to have sent her home. But I think the judges got it right with the final three. That doesn't mean I'm particularly excited about the Bryant Park finale though. What do you think?

good news and bad news
The bad news, of course, is that Christopher is gone. I've been his biggest supporter even before the season started. Hopefully he'll carry his success going forward.
On the plus side, Dennis and I take turns recapping the show, and with the last gay designer now gone ... I DON'T HAVE TO RECAP NEXT WEEK!
I'm sorry to hear that
I'm sorry to hear that you're not going to see PR through to the end. I'll miss your comments on the finale. Any chance you'll reconsider?
Project Runway
I won't watch next week. Not because the last gay standing went down (frankly, he should have been gone weeks ago), but because the winner is a forgone conclusion, the designs this year have been booooorrring, and I don't really care who wins.
Congrats on your early release, snicks.
Guh.
Boring people made boring dresses. Again. I seriously can't wait for the next season, at which time I can conveniently forget that this one ever happened!

Next week I won't record The Mentalist

Awful
I don't have much to say about this season other than it was AWFUL, probably the worst PR season ever. I don't even know where to start.. The talent hasn't been much to brag about, boring challenges, boring people. The judging has been way off, no gays to the final 3 either.. Yeah, most definitely the worst season of PR. Next year they will go back to NY, and I really hope that will make for more exciting challenges and more consistent judging.
I just finished watching Project Runway Canada, which aired back in March, but I hadn't seen it, so I decided to give it a try. Holy moly! It was sooooo good. Lots of drama, great challenges, good judging and I LOVE Iman as the host of the show. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it already. I think the last season of PRC was better than this season of PR. I also loved the fact that they showed Sunny's husband as it was no big deal. I love how progressive Canada is (even though they have Harper now, ugh).
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
Predictable Runway
I'm calling shenanigans.
"Arguably, Gordana had the best dress on the runway this week, so it seems a little unfair to have sent her home." I agree with this. Gordana had the prettiest dress, though I'll admit the back was a tad lackluster compared to the front. I honestly believe that Heidi has some kind of prejudice against Gordana and has not judged her fairly. I think that overall Irina is the best designer this season but that dress was hideous and if we were just going by the night's efforts (clearly not) it would be between her and Christopher as to who was going.
Generally, Heidi has been *mean* this season, one of my friends said she turned into the Asako Kishi of Runway. My theory is that at the time they were filming it was right about when she got pregnant and maybe her hormones were goofing her up. Whatever the case, I consider the decisions and really the season overall to be "brand damaging" and I think I'm about done with the show.
They really dropped the ball this season
I only really tuned in this long because I was rooting for Christopher from the beginning. I must admit it was kind of a relief that he was eliminated because I am kinda over it. Everything was just off.
Also everyone was so bitchy and it felt like forced drama. Well everyone minus Chris. And the models, I never watched the models of the runway show, so I don't really care about them at all. Why were they at the Getty center with the designers? That part felt kinda forced.
I'm actually enjoying repeat episodes of Project Runway season 2 on Bravo right now. Ah Santino, Nick, Chloe and Andre! Now that was a good season.
I still don't get what
Looking at all of Chris's
Looking at all of Chris's designs, they were all pretty similar. That contrast of hard/soft, light/dark, etc and the muted colors... That being said, I think this worked the first few challenges, especially with his novel designs and amongst the cast of a lot of good and a lot of bad contestants, but after a while, it probably got boring and jaded. His contrasting became too forced like he HAD to find something hard to include. It works sometimes and to varying degrees (subtle design addons/strips of changing colors) but when the contrast is blatant all the time... oy vey. I think the competition took its toll, his lack of education limited his techniques and his inability to expand his types of work to flowy dresses, pants, silhouetted forms etc really took over. He has a great personality, and he ended up being our last gay contestant, so I was rooting for him, but I couldn't accept his last work. As I hinted at before, that middle part definitely seemed forced (granted I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know what his defense was). I do wish him the best though and I'm sure he's used this experience and looked back at his work and will really grow.
Like most people who posted, I'm just uninterested in the others and will not tune into the finale. This is partly of their collectively boring personalities, and the show ignoring giving us anything about them. We got a lot about Chris, Gordana (especially Gordana), but really I know nothing about Carol Hannah, Althea, or even Irina.
Anyways, here's hoping the next season will be infinitely better. Are we positively moving back to NY? We need to.
Heidi is pissing me off.
Pissing you off?
I can't see what relevance her accent has on the point you're trying to make. First off, I don't think she's making a conscious effort to "cover" it. Maybe she is starting to lose her own accent because she has stayed in your country for so long. Second, I don't know if you meant it, but it seems as if you have a thing against people who don't have what you perceive to be the "correct accent", which to me is verging on bigotry.
The point you made about grammar is warranted though. But on the other hand, there are probably more Americans committing more glaring mistakes than that MAY/CAN example you gave.
And then you move on to her being a MODEL. AFAIK, her being one gives her more right to be a judge on the show than we as mere viewers have a right to critique the merits of her comments. Unless of course you're Tim Gunn hiding under that screen name?
I Don't Think It Mattered
I expected it
I saw the inspiration in the
Irina's looked better once they got rid of the clunky shoes and sweatband.
Althea's was hideous, but as a fellow Daytonian, I was happy to see her pull through.
Gordana's looked like a vagina. I'm not the first to say so.
Christopher's might have been better if not for those hideous random tie-dye splotches on the skirt, but overall it looked very insubstantial and cheap.
This season = mucho lame.
Designers vs Models
This season has been really one-note with the constant disappearance of Nina and Michael. Perhaps LA is really NOT the place for the show.
As everyone else has said, Christopher has really been a disappointment. I remember one designer who saw the beauty in drain water and created something very very beautiful. Christopher took quite a risk and it didn't pay off. Btw, really? Rock with algae? Suppose beauty really comes from all angles, this time the angle must have really been some aquatic microorganism.
Somehow I do think that the pool of talent this time is too inexperienced. I know people are supposed to learn and grow on the show - but really? Christopher has really been dishing out some really awful colors and fabric! And Gordana too.
Will we relive the height of Season 4, ever again? There hasn't really been a piece of design from season 6 that sticks on my mind. The bigger the expectation, the longer the wait - I guess all of them can leave the runway.
