"Project Runway" 7.10 Recap: "Hey, That’s My Fabric"

It was a sad, sad night on Project Runway. If you’ve seen this week’s episode, you already know why. If not, keep reading ...

We begin at the Atlas where it’s "game on!" for Jonathan. Anthony still has his "eye on the prize." Maya is scared that there are only a few designers left. (Doesn’t she realize by now that this is how it works? Each week, someone goes home, thereby decreasing the numbers.)

On the runway, Heidi meets with the remaining seven designers: Jonathan, Anthony, Maya, Mila, Jay, Seth Aaron, and my personal favorite (not!), Emilio. For tonight’s challenge, they will "take creativity to the next level," and that it’s going to involve "more than just choosing a fabric."

At the meeting with Tim Gunn, the designers are introduced to Vivian Tam (I asked if she wrote Joy Luck Club. Apparently, she did not.) She explains that they will be designing their own textile "to serve as the core" of their garment, with the help of the HP touchscreen desktop computer-thingie (sort of like the electronic sketch pad they’ve been using, but on a much larger scale/screen).

With one hour to develop their print, the designers get to work on this two-day challenge. In the first of many third-person one-liners, Anthony decides, "Prints don’t work for Anthony."

Mila tells us she’s going to "emulate drips of paint on canvas" in her fabric design. Emilio plans a graffiti print with his name "ESOSA" all over it (as "branding" is so very important in today’s self-obsessed society). Maya confesses that she’s using black again, but that she will also incorporate a bright "electric" orange.

And we’re off to Mood…

Seth shocks us by confessing that he’s using color (bright yellow) to create a “British take on pop punk.” Emilio is going to create a three piece number with jacket, skirt, and top. Mila plans a strapless V-neck with “giant print,” at which point Anthony says something about how he “doesn’t want to wear Legos,” he just wants to play with them. (Oh, Anthony!)
