Torchwood Episode 101 Recap: "Everything Changes"Welcome to Torchwood — For the next 13 weeks, we'll be recapping the BBC hit sci-fi drama series Torchwood, which is now available in the US on BBC America. You may be asking yourself right about now, "What the hell is Torchwood? Do I get BBC America? Are there any hot guys in this show?" ![]() For the first question, think X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Doctor Who — or as I call it, Doctor Who? because I have never watched Doctor Who. Torchwood is not only a spin-off of Doctor Who, the word Torchwood is an anagram for Doctor Who. Anyway, the show takes place in present-day Wales and centers around a team of hottie science geeks from the Torchwood Institute, a secretive organization that harnesses the advanced creativity of alien technologies to use for their own pedestrian purposes, even though they view the aliens with suspicion. Basically, they're like straight people. As to your second question, I have no idea if you get BBC America but if you don't, with a line-up like The F Word, Drunk on the Job, How Clean is Your House? and Love Me, Love My Doll, you should subscribe right away, if only for that last one. And lastly, are there any hot guys in this show? Yes and he's a Scottish-American actor named John Barrowman. Why else would AfterElton.com be recapping this series? We're all about furthering international relations. So grab a pint, a map and your British to American dictionary and enter the world of Torchwood. You can always watch AbFab later. (I know you TiVo'd it.) Someone left the corpse out in the rain — It's a rainy night in Cardiff, which we all know is the largest city and capital of Wales. (Egad, this is going to be harder than I thought.) Anywho. It's raining — pouring, in fact. There's a dead guy lying face up in an alley. Police and crime scene technicians in white hazmat suits rope off the area and walk around purposefully. Constable Gwen Cooper and her male partner stand behind the crime scene tape, watching the hazmat techs, drinking coffee and making small talk, oblivious to the rain running in rivulets down their faces. Umbrellas are for the French.
