Ugly Betty Episode 206 Recap: “Something Wicked This Way Comes”

I’m thrilled by this development because I’m thinking it will give Hilda, one of my favorite characters, more interesting things to do than grieve and show off her high beams.

Cut to the New York skyline gleaming like the Emerald City. “Defying Gravity” is playing in the backgroun as Betty timidly approaches Henry’s door. I was convinced she’d find him sleeping with That Girl! But he’s actually alone and glad to see her.

They kiss, but then she must start feeling something defying gravity down below, because she lets him pull her inside his apartment.

Justin Fabulousness Meter (Scale of 1 to 11): 5. Fabulous behavior is thankfully way up from recent weeks, but Justin loses points for parting with that Merman Gypsy Playbill so easily. Couldn’t he have sold the Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone ones first?

Justin is Back!

and Marc and Cliff have split. But only temporarily. They'll reconcile shortly I'm sure. Marc saying he doesn't want to end up alone like Willi was oddly moving. Love Amanda's new hat. Very Natalie Wood in the "You're Gonna Hear From Me" number from Inside Daisy Clover. SO glad you got the screen-grab of the Pork Rinds! The lobby of the theater that supposedly playing Wicked is Grauman's Chinese. In the world of Ugly Betty this makes sense. (Sid Grauman was a Big Ol' Gay Homosexual, after all.) So glad they (type)cast Marlo Thomas as a bitch. Now having squeezed the last note out of Wicked let's hope they skip Avenue Q and Legally Blonde and move onto some choice Sondheim. Maybe Justin could stage a class production of Anyone Can Whistle. His little Fag-Hagette looks like she's make a great Cora Hoover Hooper. Next Week: The Biggest Wedding Disaster since Liza Minnelli and David Gest.

Yes! Sondheim...

I'd think a serious musical princess (he's still too young to be a queen) like Justin would already be a Sondheim devotee (certainly over crap like Spamalot) but we haven't heard him talk about Sondheim at all yet, have we?

More Musical "Betty" in the future

>The lobby of the theater that supposedly playing Wicked is Grauman's Chinese. <

According to Playbill.com, it was filmed at the Pantages, where the west coast produciton of Wicked is playing.

And it looks like the musical episode is a go:  Hairspray's Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing the songs.

The magazine could have been devoted to . . .

The brilliant early 90's Bruce Willis movie, Hudson Hawk. Yay for the Atalanta reference.

Probably my fav episode of the series, I don't love Marc

Last night's episode was probably my favorite episode since UB started. I loved the inclusion of wicked. I loved the vulnerable Willie. I liked Hilda and Justin's interaction and her situation. I loved loved loved Henry and Betty! The end of the episode was perfect! God, what a fantastic show. I enjoy Marc as a character, he's funny and campy. I don't really care for him as a "real" person. He never quite jumps the ramp for me into becoming a character that I care about. I once cared...but not now. I get that he has his issues but just when he's about to have a break through he stops. I get it's a comedy, I get that the character isn't real ut there's so many things he could have and should have said in the episode when he was talking to Amanda. I ♥ Cliff.

Is it weird that I like Gio

Is it weird that I like Gio more than Henry? I dunno. And last night's episode was awesome. Even though it was practically a huge commercial for Wicked, but that's okay because Wicked is a good show- although maybe a tad overrated.

'Wicked' is wickedly bad, but it served Betty well...

As much as I loathed ‘Wicked’ on Broadway (it was a loud, painful, cacophonous train wreck – as if the kids from ‘Fame’ joined Cirque de Soleil), it was utilized wonderfully on Betty. Sure, the episode was more of a commercial for that show than an actual Betty episode (ahhh, sweet commerce) but it was endearingly acted and stingingly funny.

I so love love love

this Ugly Betty episode. and Wicked!

it makes me smile that it's super overly full of Wicked.

i hope there'd be more musical in Ugly Betty.

I love the way Betty tries

I love the way Betty tries to use 'you got another girl pregnant' to end ever argument. I mean, hello? He got his long-term, live-in girlfriend pregnant, and then left his pregnant girlfriend to be with you. If anything, you're the other woman in this scenario.
