Ugly Betty Episode 209 Recap: “Giving Up the Ghost”

He tells Alexis he won’t give Mode any more time on their deadline, and calls her on the fact that she was ready to flash Arthur and now won’t just because he’s a little person. So she does the only sensible thing and locks both of them and her boobs inside.

Meanwhile, back in rehab, Cameron and Betty are bonding over old times.

Betty: We actually met on the shoot. I got you coffee. You threw the cup at me. And then you filled the cup up with vodka.
Cameron: Classic me!

But Cameron swears she’s clean and sober now, plus God touched her in a totally non-sexual way. She says there’s no way she can leave the program now.

Fortunately, you don’t grow up as Claire Meade’s son without learning something about how rehab works. Daniel reminds Cameron that part of it is making amends, and she has some serious amends to make given how she behaved at Mode, what with peeing on Betty’s chair and all. Cameron, seeing the logic in this, agrees to do the re-shoot.

Cut to Wili’s apartment, where she’s offering up a champagne toast to her new staff. She’s even allowing them to live it up for once and eat cheese, just so long as they limit it to two pieces each.

Wili: I’m so happy to have you all … except for you Florence. I thought it was obvious the way I felt about you.

After poor Florence runs from the room in tears, Marc comes over with a question for “Wilamommy.” Heh. Best line of the episode and it’s only one word.

Marc wants to know where the financing for Slater will come from to pay all these people. Wili says that since her Sugar Daddy died, she’ll just have to turn to her actual Daddy. Marc smirks at the idea of Wili even having a Daddy.

Marc: I always imagined you rising out of a cauldron or the spawn of a jackal.
Wili: You’re so sweet. Extra piece of cheese for you.

Cut to a split screen of Daniel and Amanda talking on the phone. Alexis says she knew Daniel could save the cover. And Daniel tells Alexis he knows Bradford would be proud of her.

The camera pulls back and I was sure, given the set-up, we were going to see Alexis and Harvey in some kinky sex thing. But instead, Alexis is holding the keys above Harvey’s head as he keeps jumping up to try to snatch them away. Come to think of it, it does seem like some kinky sex thing.

Alexis begs for his help, and he makes fun of how “the poor pretty rich girl has problems.” So Alexis decides to fill him in on some of her problems.

Cover photo shoot: the re-shoot. Workers are hanging up giant cut-outs of lips, so the theme of the shoot is either The Rocky Horror Picture Show or it’s sponsored by Chapstick.

Christina comes out of the dressing room to tell Betty that their cover girl is demanding booze or drugs before she’ll go to work. I’m thinking of making the same demands of myself before I finish this recap.

Betty: What about God?
Christina: She mentioned him. She said, “God, I need some booze or drugs.”
