Ugly Betty Episode 210 Recap: “Bananas for Betty”

Mode, in ruins, the next day. Daniel is wheeling the chair to Bradford’s office, where Alexis will sit in victory. He whines to Betty that his father was right. He never had what it takes be a good leader.

She tries to cheer him up with the idea that you can still be a good leader even without killer instincts. Just look at Martin Luther King or Jesus, she says. Daniel laughs at this and says he’s pretty sure he could run a fashion magazine as well as MLK. But Jesus, not so much. He’s got that right. Jesus – total style icon. Who do you think invented strappy sandals?

Cut to Wili’s apartment, where Marc is running around frantically. There’s been a mutiny and no one is coming to work, unless they hire children or prison labor. He wonders how Wili can be so calm, when Slater is pretty much DOA. She tells him she’s got a plan B.

She goes to the freezer and removes a metal canister. When Marc asks what it is, we get a flashback …

We’re back at the morgue. Wili is there, in all her white witch glory, questioning the cute doctor in front of Bradford’s corpse. She asks him if it’s possible to remove viable sperm from a recently deceased body.

Ha! I totally called that one. Except I thought she’d have to get the sperm herself the old-fashioned way, and instead she wants the doctor to do it. Hopefully not the old-fashioned way.

Back in Wili’s kitchen, Marc is grossed out by the fact that she’s been keeping sperm in her freezer. Like that’s any less sanitary than wherever he puts his.

Wili: It’s our future. If I can’t marry into the Meade family, I will give birth to an heir.

Excellent! That means we’ll get to see Wilamommy Dearest. I can’t wait.

Justin Fabulousness Meter (scale of 1 to 11): 2. Justin had one funny moment and then was never seen again. Just one of many ways in which this episode came up short for me, like no Amanda/Marc banter, and no Marc/Cliff canoodling. I’m hoping when the show comes back in January for its few remaining episodes, we’re past this slump.

What do you think? Have you found the recent guest stars a bit disappointing? What’s your take on Rico/Gio? And Betty’s future prospects with Henry? What would you like to see Justin doing these days? We’ve got several weeks of waiting ahead of us, so we might as well start griping.

The music in question that

The music in question that Hilda and Gio went dancing to is called "reggaeton" which is a fusion of reggae and spanish music. I hope this writer's strike is over soon so we can get that musical episode and more of Justin.

Fun episode

Oh, I thought this episode wasn't bad; not the best, but it was great fun seeing Betty White again. (Now, what I would REALLY like to see is the original TV Land skit "Ugly Betty White" that lead to White's appearance as a guest star. But I can't seem to find it anywhere on-line---anyone have any luck in locating a viewable clip?)

The paintball fight was very silly but kind of fun (though, is there anyone that Amanda won't sleep with?)  I particularly enjoyed that dramatic moment when the last shot was fired, as the siblings embraced---classic.

I think it's important to get Wili and Marc back to Mode as soon as possible; I am really missing Marc's interaction with the others who work there, particularly Amanda; they're a lot of fun to watch together. As for how Wili could possibly be re-hired, though... well, all I can think of is that she'll become pregnant, and use that as a sort of threat to get her old job back. ("You do what I say, or I'll be really mean to your half-sibling!" Though, given that both Daniel and Alexis had a terrible relationship with their father, and he seemed to despise both of them, would they really care all that much about another of his offspring? I hope they would be decent enough to do so, but let's face it, any kid brought up by Wili is going to be totally screwed up for life no matter what.)

I recently bought the first season of Ugly Betty, and though I had meant to view the episodes in a leisurely fashion, I burned right through them; just couldn't help myself, I'm enjoying this series so much. So, now I'm totally up to speed on Betty and Henry's past, and I have to say---what the heck are they doing? I guess I don't get this "let's be lovers even though we know it is going to end very soon and there is no future for us" mentality. Henry knows there is no future at all with his cheating ex-girlfriend, since he a) can't trust her, and b) is in love with someone else. But it is very understandable that he wants to be a part of his new child's life. That being the case, he should either move out west to be near the child right off and make a start on his new life, OR he could convince his ex to move to New York (help her find a job or partially support her) so the kid is growing up right where he is living now. I don't know what the writers have planned for this couple, but I'm not too entranced by the pairing. Heck, I'm not all that excited about Betty and Gio either; he really is kind of a jerk. (He's also one of those guys who is going to look like he's about fourteen for half his life, I think!)

I agree that the series really does need to use Justin more often, and have him be a bigger part of the show. Cute kid, a fun character, and there could be a lot for him to do if he could get involved with Mode on a regular basis. Killer voice, too, judging from his singing on the first season finale---he should have a couple of numbers of his own on the musical episode... Anyway, it will be tough to wait until my next Betty fix---groan, not until January?

And just when you thought it couldn't get any gayer...

The Fassbinder flick was Die Bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant (Bitter Tears for Petra von Kant), a tale of lesbian obsession.

Wonder if Henry is giving hints to Betty? Maybe they could invite Christina in for a little manage-a-yikes.

LOVE BETTY WHITE

Who doesn't love Betty White? She is so cute and sweet? Wilhemenia battling her for a cab and injuring her in the process? What could be funnier? This show is getting better

Betty back?

3 episodes later, the show stopped, on the 13th.

Will Betty be back for the 14th episode on April 24?

There are evidences pointing to this. I, for one, hope they're true.

 Yep, I've heard that

Yep, I've heard that Betty comes back 24 April, for about five episodes.  I'm looking forward to it very much; this is easily one of my favourite current television shows...
