"United States of Tara": The Dog Ate My Recap!

First let me start of by apologizing for getting this recap up a full week after United States of Tara wrapped up its second season. Let's just say there were technical difficulties.

When we last left off, Marshall and Lionel had finally acted on all that sexual tension those teenage hormones simmering between them with a very nice kiss and what looked to be incipient heavy-petting.

Meanwhile, Charmaine had nearly landed her a baby daddy named Nick for her baby by Neil, Tara forgave Carrie Bradshaw's ex-boyfriend for sleeping with her alter Buck's bar pick-up played by Joey Lauren Adams who was great in Chasing Amy where Jason Lee played gay.

But I digress. Sort of like this season IMHO.

Anywho, the ep opens with Moosh and Kate blowing up balloons for Charmaine's wedding.

Is this a metaphor for something?

Marshall critiques Kate's previous video escapades as Princess Valhalla as being akin to prostitution, but Kate points out that if what she did was prostitution, then all the women on the block, plus the stay at home dad, are hookers. Naturally, a balloon then pops which is a nice metaphor for what happens to Charmaine's wedding when things get predictably bizarre and Nick bails during the ceremony.

Smart man, although it took him this long to figure out he should split? Maybe not so smart.

But before we get to that point. we drop in to Marshall's bedroom where activist Lionel explains he's boycotting Charmaine's wedding because breeders take everything for granted including marriage, babies and ... leggings?

And you say, I'm gay, Lionel?

Lionel adds that anyone who gets married while gay marriage is still illegal is "basically a holocaust denier." Marshall points out that this is a bit of a stretch, but Lionel is unswayed saying "A person who stands for nothing spends their whole life sitting." But Marshall says he's tired and needs to sit sometimes. Yeah, these two are so not going to make it past high school.

When asked why he's tired, Marshall reminds Lionel about the whole crazy mom, umpteen alters, and lamebrain sister thing. Lionel sweetly says he wants "to hug it better."

Marshall uses their hug to ask Lionel to please come to the wedding with him. Lionel agrees and promises to keep his "big fat gay mouth shut." Any guesses on how that's going to play out? Anyone? Anyone?

At least before we get to that point, we get another sweet kiss from our two boys.
