AE: Can you give our readers your impressions of Tom and Terry as a couple?
JM: It's funny - they are described as a “feisty duo” on the Amazing Race website – and that's exactly how they are. There's a lot of “nitpicking” back and forth, but they do always end up laughing at the end of the day. It's interesting – not too long after they had initially met each other – they were like an old married couple.

LG: They are hysterical as a couple! They have a kind of interesting chemistry and rapport when they travel - both verbally and emotionally. In an instant they can be laughing together – sharing an inside joke. One may be annoyed with the other and vice-versa. There's a kind of brouhaha that starts up and then unwinds itself, then they are giggling and laughing again. It's normal for them. You can't ever get bored sitting with them because they are just so damn funny all the time.

AE: Last year on Amazing Race there was a gay couple that lost in the very first round of challenges. They clearly were not up to dealing with the show's considerable surprises and pressures. How do you think Tom and Terry will fare?
JM: I'll be curious to see how they do – I don't know. I knew at some point Terry would make it onto a reality TV show. He has talked about his desire for it before. He's got a passionate personality and drive. You see a lot of people on the shows with those qualities. I hope that with their passion they win this race.”

LG: Both my husband and I think they'll make it really far. Tom and Terry are very competitive, intense (and funny) people. You get the sense they would do what they needed to do to make sure they get it done – and that they would get pretty far. I believe Tom promised his brother that they wouldn't get knocked out in the first round.

I've watched an episode of Amazing Race - where I think the contestants had a choice to either crawl through a stream where these giant spiders were, or they had to blow on this aborigine flute thing. I ended up having anxiety dreams. And the funny thing is – I didn't know that Tom was going to be on The Amazing Race. So I was telling him, “My God, Tom, I watched this show last night and it was horrible – it gave me all these anxiety dreams.” (laughs) “What ever are you thinking Tom – being on a show like this?”

AE: Who do you think is the stronger - the leader – the quicker thinking of the two? Who's the one that's going to get them out of a jam, etc.?
JM: I'd have to say Terry. Any conversation I have with him – he's always at the forefront of it. If ever there's a group of us together, trying to make a decision, Terry is always there – making the decision and getting people rallied around a particular topic.

LG: Wow, I would be hard pressed to guess! Tom initially seems like he's the more laid back and quiet one, but the truth is - his mind is moving very fast. Terry's got all of his wonderful neuroses – he could be the one who needs to take and extra second or two to think about something. I actually think their differences will help make them a strong, competitive team.

AE: Have you ever seen Tom and Terry have a serious fight? Might the stresses of the intense competition spark a major tiff between them?
JM: I can't say. To tell you the truth I've never seen them in a major argument before. All I've ever seen is the basic nitpicking – I've never seen them blow-up in any way.

LG: (laughs) I think they're totally going to fight! Because you know what? They are passionate people – they express themselves. That's what makes them so much fun to be around. They are never dull.
