Brothers & Sisters Recaps: Week 9 (page 7)
by Dennis Ayers Page 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 - Home Cut to a short time later in the bank vault. Kevin, Sarah, and Tommy have opened the safe deposit box. They discover a sealed letter to Nora as well as a deed for the Nevada land. Turns out the deed includes an easement to the army (allowing the military to pass through it.) The deed also includes a clause that, in the event of Bill Walker's death, the army will buy the property outright for $30 million dollars! What the hell? Doesn't that make Bill Walker some sort of war profiteer? After all, he's selling the U.S. Army a $1.2 million dollar property for the inflated price of $30 million. Gosh, that's a scheme worthy of Halliburton! My head spins. Sarah, Tommy and Kevin don't waste time dwelling on the ethical implications – they just whoop and holler because this means the Walker Produce pension fund is saved! The Walkers won't have to move into tract housing and eat TV dinners! Hallelujah! Cut to the Walker mansion. Nora, with Kitty's assistance, is finishing up their Thanksgiving dinner preparations. Uncle Saul and Justin walk in. The phone rings. It's Senator McAllister for Kitty. He asks if she's been fired yet from Red, White & Blue. Turns out Kitty hasn't been fired.
Kitty says she'll think about it. My advice? Keep your day job, Kitty. I know folks who work on Capitol Hill and, trust me, Congressional staffers don't get paid squat. Plus, there's the whole sexual harassment issue. And DC housing prices are just ridiculous. Cut to the Walker Mansion study. Kevin and Tommy are with Uncle Saul & Nora, breaking the good news about the $30 million dollar Nevada property. Tommy gives Nora the sealed personal letter from Bill Walker.
Let's see, we've previously credited him with infidelity and embezzlement. I guess we can add war profiteering to the list of his accomplishments. Nora is left alone with the letter. She opens and through voiceover we hear Bill Walker, telling her how sorry he is, how much he loved her, and how super-duper it was having a family with her. (So what kind of letter did he leave for mistress Holly? How much he regretted her? How he would change it all if he could?) Nora weeps. I yawn. Cut to the Thanksgiving table. Nora makes a heartfelt toast. Julia tells Tommy to go ahead and break the news.
Apparently that Dixie cup trick where they mixed Justin and Kevin's sperm worked like a charm. Gosh, everything seems right in the world for the Walker clan. Their money problems are gone (in fact they're $15 million dollars richer!), the rift between Kitty and Nora has been mended, Kevin is getting regular nookie, Julia and Tommy are preggers, even Justin is off the booze and pills and resigned to a second tour of duty. This week's episode hastily resolved so many plot threads and left so many of the characters in a good place, that it felt more like a series finale than a mid-season episode. Frankly, it's hard to imagine what Brothers & Sisters will actually be about for the remainder of the season. Seems like the only big issues left to be addressed are:
To me, it seems like with this episode, the show's writers wanted to wipe the slate clean and start again with an entirely new set of obstacles and conflicts for the Walker family to deal with. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the show has up its sleeve for the remainder of the season. As long as we get more of Kevin, I'll be happy. |
