Cut to later that night at Holly's house. The doorbell rings and Nora is on the doorstep with a plate of something or other. Holly is rightfully suspicious. Is Nora trying to poison her with latkes or something? Talk about not kosher! Nora asks to be invited in. She has some things to get off her chest. (Note to Sally Field – I'd start with the Pashmina scarf—that look is so over.)

Nora: I came here to forgive you. From the bottom of my heart. William was a strong and generous man and he always took care of the people he loved. The thing is he loved two women. It's as simple as that. For so long I tried to convince myself that what he had with you had no depth. It wasn't real…
Holly: It wasn't the big happy family like you had. But it was real, Nora.
Nora: Yes, I know that. But I was not his ball and chain either!
Holly: No. You weren't.
Nora: That land. It's yours. He left it for you. And if you want to keep it for whatever reason then you have to keep it. But… if there's any way… any place in your heart. We need it… we need… your help. Just please consider it, for my family.

Nora makes her exit and Holly looks after her, thoughtfully chaste. Maybe Nora's heartfelt plea will be enough to mollify Holly.

Okay, another aside here, but this was a pretty good scene. I gotta say, I always like the scenes between Holly and Nora and hope they keep finding ways to write their showdowns into the show. Actually, Holly has had a lot to do tonight, which comes as no surprise considering that Patricia Wettig's son, Cliff Olin, co-wrote the episode. He did all right by his Momma I think. But I digress.

Cut to Justin's court case. Kevin is wrapping up his closing arguments.

Kevin: Justin came back damaged and he turned to drugs. He asked for three months to get clean and sober. And Major Guinness shot that down. Something has gone very wrong when the US Army cannot recognize the exhaustion and depletion of one of its own. Then its contract becomes reckless, ruthless, limitless and therefore unconscionable.

I don't know. To me it seems like the show is using this court case to call into question the Army's current backdoor draft policy. An admirable goal, but it's just so implausible that a civilian court would even hear this case that I found myself tuning out from the courtroom scenes this week.

Cut to Sarah's house. She's asking Paige what she has learned about Chanukah.

Paige says that Chanukah can be as much fun as Christmas which is, incidentally, her favorite holiday again! She's obviously angling to double dip at the holiday well.

Sarah gives Paige her scheduled insulin shot. Sarah might be getting more adept at administering injections, but it's still clearly painful and Paige winces.

Paige: Mom. Why did I get diabetes? Was I bad?
Sarah: No, baby. It doesn't work like that! Bad things happen.

Umm, not according to Pat Robertson.

Sarah: I love you more than anything else in the world.
Paige: Even more than Cooper?
Sarah: I have more love than both of you will ever need.

Hate to bring it up, but what happened to half-brother Gabe? Just two episodes ago Sarah was telling her stepson how she considered him one of her own. This episode, the poor kid's nowhere to be found.
