Brothers & Sisters Recaps: Week 10 (page 7)

Cut to Producer Whit's office at Red White & Blue. Kitty stops by to decline his offer to make her Red White & Blue's lone host.

Kitty: Red White & Blue isn't me. It's Warren.
Whit: Warren has gotten smug.
Kitty: No, politics has gotten smug. It's just the times we live in…not the messenger.
Whit:
Say that on TV! Don't waste it on me.

Or me, for that matter. I could do without Kitty's civics' lectures. But I digress.

Kitty is resolute. She doesn't want to stay on Red, White & Blue. Whit wishes her well and tells her to do something unexpected. (Like maybe take a huge pay cut to go work on Capitol Hill for a recently divorced Republican Senator?)

Cut to Walker Produce.

Holly shows up. No doubt swayed by Nora's kind words of atonement from the night before, she presents Sarah, Saul and Tommy with a compromise proposal.

Holly: I'll sell you my share for half its value in cash, but I want the other half in Ojai Foods stock.

Okay, is she just dumb? Ojai Foods is on the verge of bankruptcy. That $5 million in stock could end up being worthless. Dumb, Holly. Go for the cash!

Even dumber, Sarah practically throws this dream offer back in Holly's face. She finds it “sick” that Sarah wants to be involved in Ojai Foods. Holly turns the other cheek. How many friggin' cheeks does that woman have?

Holly: The ball's in your court. Let me know.

Cut to Justin's court case. The judge is ready to rule on the case but before she can do it, Justin gets up to make a personal statement. It's all kind of boring, really. Justin talks about facing his responsibilities and accepting them. All very high-minded and well-intentioned but note to Brothers & Sisters writers: can we please get on with something more interesting? Like maybe Kevin's love life? He hasn't so much as flirted with anyone this entire episode! But I digress.

The judge, predictably, rules in favor of the Army. What the hell else could she do? Speaking as a lawyer here: in the real world, this “case” would never, ever have been heard. It's a military matter and, thus, military courts would have exclusive jurisdiction.

Well, Kevin and Justin lose the court case and all seems lost, but outside on the courthouse steps they run into Brigadier General Hendricks. General Hendricks is meant to exude honor and authority-- seems like a part tailor made for, say, James Earl Jones. Unfortunately, the actor playing the part is not James Earl Jones and the character loses further gravitas because of a really distracting merit badge on his beret. What the heck is that thing? It looks like a Dr. Schols gel heel insert.

Anyway, he gives Justin a sort of Christmas/Chanukah present: a six month deferral before he has to report back for active duty. Hurrah! But honestly, did anyone really think the show would be sending Justin off to Iraq? (Desert exteriors and military extras just aren't in the budget.)

Cut to outside Holly's house. She's unloading groceries from her car, and I notice she is wearing a white pleated dress with black hose. Oh dear. That's unfortunate. It's like she raided Minnie Mouse's closet.

Sarah drives up to tell her they agreed to Holly's terms: $5 million in cash and $5 million in company stock.

Sarah: But this is not what my father wanted. If he had wanted you to be part owner of the company then he would have left you a share. I will be civil but I won't pretend. I don't know how my Mom's going to deal with this.
Holly: You don't give her enough credit.
Sarah: Welcome to the family business.

Cut to the Walker Mansion. Kevin and Justin arrive to tell the assembled family that Justin has six more months before he has to report back to the Army. Cue the warm holiday music. All is now right with the world. Except of course for the fact that there are no new episodes of Brothers & Sisters until after the New Year! Oh the secular humanity! Keep checking back to AfterElton's Brothers & Sisters Page for the latest news and updates about the show, and we'll start back with the recaps in January!
