Cut to Senator McCallister's office. He's on the phone when Kitty walks in. He cups his hand over the receiver and tells Kitty that the LA Times is on the line and they want to know why he's keeping his divorce proceedings sealed.

McCallister: Got any ideas?

Kitty reaches for the phone and smoothly introduces herself as McCallister's new communications director. She promises to call the reporter back tomorrow with a full statement from the Senator.

McCallister is impressed with how smoothly Kitty handled the call, but one thing seems to bother him:

McCallister: What ‘full statement' were you referring to just now?
Kitty: The one that I'll be writing for you today. You know, the one where you tell the truth about the divorce, about how you never had sexual relations with that nanny.
McCallister: You're kidding.
Kitty: No I'm not. Every time you hold back or try to conceal something then you're just giving them another story. The story is: ‘Senator McCallister is still concealing something from his constituents.'

Oh, Kitty. You have no idea. Actually, I have no idea either. I just have this gut feeling that McCallister is hiding something.

McCallister: And your brother? Is he okay with you working here?
Kitty: He'll survive. Just don't go voting for any more constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage.
McCallister: Don't worry. My own brother wouldn't let me do that ever again.
Kitty: Waitaminute – you have a gay brother?
McCallister: Yeah. And a cute one too.

Kitty clearly gets ideas about fixing Kevin up with the Senator's brother. McCallister can see where she's heading.

McCallister: Do you want both of our brothers to kill you?

Brief aside here to mention that the fact that the Senator has a gay brother casts serious doubt on my earlier theory that the Senator himself is a closet case. The Senator and his brother both gay? Maybe in real life that's not so improbable, but I have to admit it does seem like an unlikely over-abundance of queers for a network television show.

We cut back to Promises Malibu. It is another family group therapy session. Before we get to Justin, we have to sit through Angry Girl ranting at her family again. Those guys are masochists aren't they? Why would they come back for more abuse? Perhaps Angry Girl was right and they really do all have lobotomies.

Fortunately, in this session Angry Girl isn't quite so hostile. In fact, she's a bit weepy.

(Formerly) Angry Girl: (holding up what looks like a sweat rag). I got this towel from when you guys were still married. The lead singer of the Rotting Monkeys threw it into the audience and I caught it. It smells like ass , but it reminds me of when we all used to be a family.

Ahh, isn't that sweet! Angry Girl got the single best line of the night. She exits stage left with her ass towel and then it is Justin's turn to address his family. Well, Kitty and Nora anyway. Apparently the rest of the Walkers had better things to do.

Justin says he was supposed to think of something important to him – something to help him stay clean. He holds up a tiny cassette tape and explains that Nora sent it to him back when he was serving in Afghanistan. It looks like one of those little answering machine tapes. Pretty old school if you ask me. Nowadays, she'd probably just direct him to her podcast on iTunes.

Justin plays the tape and, over a video montage of the Walker siblings, we hear Nora's voice giving Justin a rundown on the news from home (circa 2003): Sarah's pregnant again; Kevin's going to gay pride; Tommy got a promotion at Ojai Foods. All of this is sweet, but kind of boring. Frankly, after Angry Girl's heartfelt ass towel comment, everything else seems anti-climactic.

Nora (from the tape): We all miss you my sweet boy. You're my light. Please come home as soon as you can. Life is so much less without you.

That's the end of the show. And may I say, it was a very good show indeed.
