Cut to Senator McAllister's offices. Kitty is doing her part to try and fill in for Sarah. She's on the phone trying to line up a last minute caterer, but she's having no success.

Kitty: You're strictly kosher? Well, let's just say that I wanted to get like a cream sauce…

The kosher caterer hangs up on her and she groans. Senator McAllister (Rob Lowe) happens to be wandering by and overhears. Anyone else notice a lot of people happen to wander by on this show? I'm just saying. Anyway, the senator offers Kitty the use of his personal chef, Pietro.

McAllister: Pietro is world class. His crab cakes are unbelievable. Not kosher but…

The senator gets Pietro on the phone and lines him up for Kitty. Kitty is clearly impressed--so impressed that she invites McAllister to attend Nora's party.

Kitty: You can come and meet the whole entire crazy family. Not that it's going to be intimate. My mother is actually shockingly popular. There'll be lots of people there. Though mostly Democrats.

In the spirit of bi-partisanship, McAllister accepts the invitation. I'm not sure this is going to go over well with Kevin. In fact, I smell a potential smack-down in the making.

Cut to Promises Malibu. Tommy has arrived to pick up Justin. But first he has to meet with Justin's drug counselor. The counselor reminds Tommy that they are releasing Justin for the night under his supervision.

Counselor: It's really important that you're with him at all times. Also, you can't take Justin any place where drugs or alcohol will be readily available.

Tommy remembers the crates of wine that have been sent over for Nora's party. No doubt he also remembers that everyone in his family drinks like fish. He keeps these concerns to himself and signs the waiver/liability forms.

Cut to the Walker Mansion. Kevin looks harried while trying to supervise the workers from the party rental company hired to set up the decorations. He notices something weird about the theme: Scabbards, coats of arms, bronze goblets? Did Sarah make a mistake when she selected the party package? It looks like they are tricking out the Walker mansion for a renaissance faire.

Kevin finds the party planner and asks why all the Middle Ages knickknacks.

Party Planner: It comes with the medieval package.

Kevin: No, no. We ordered the mid-level package.

Party Planner: There's no such thing.

Kevin tries in vain to sort it out but they signed a contract and now are stuck with the medieval theme. Just then he gets a call from the video editor hired to assemble Nora's tribute video. The editor doesn't know what to do with one of the “testimonials” which seems to him to be a mistake. Looks like Sarah and Joe's sex tape got mixed in with the other tapes. Quelle suprise! The editor wants to know what to do, but Kevin is so distracted that he hardly listens. He just tells the editor to “put everything in” and hangs up.

Kevin takes another call, this one from Tommy who breaks the news that they can't have alcohol at the party because of Justin. Not knowing what else to do, Kevin tells the guys delivering the wine to put it upstairs. Meanwhile, the doorbell rings. Kevin answers the door and finds four uniformed state troopers. They are members of Senator McAllister's security detail. They need to “sweep” the place for potential security issues.

Is a ticked off gay brother a security issue? And I guess we can forget about seeing a smackdown between Kevin and the senator.

Cut to several hours later. Kitty and Nora have returned from their matinee of Wicked and are preparing to enter the darkened house.

Nora: I just love going to theater matinees. I don't know why Kevin ended things with that flying monkey. He was just adorable.

Perhaps the back hair was an issue? Or was it picking lice out of each other's pelts? I digress. Anyway, Kitty can't help but notice that Nora fluffs her hair and applies lipstick before entering the house. Obviously, she knows about the surprise party.

They enter and everyone leaps out and yells “Surprise!” But the only surprise for Nora is the garish coat of arms hanging prominently in the dining room—apparently a central part of the “medieval party theme.”
