WHAT DO YOU CALL THE ANTI-RICHARD HATCH? A LOSER!
Okay, that was mean. Rafe from Survivor: Guatemala, who says he wanted to be the anti-Richard Hatch, could clean my clock with both arms tied behind his back. And finishing third on Survivor is no mean feat. But I wanted him to win so much, in part because he really was the anti-Richard, and I liked the idea of America seeing a soft-spoken, gay, Mormon win, especially one who was tough and shrewd. Oh, well. There is a whole interview with Rafe over at Gay.com, but be warned: they make you click ten times to read the whole thing.

DOLLY'S GOLDEN GLOBES
I know—one more joke like that and my quippy columnist license will be revoked. Cut me some slack, okay? Anyway, Dolly Parton is celebrating her first ever Golden Globe nomination. The honor is for her song "Travelin’ Thru", written for the movie TransAmerica, starring Desperate Housewives’ alum Felicity Huffman. Parton says she’s known a few transsexuals, and it was that first hand knowledge which helped make the song work so well. IMHO, the Golden Globes aren’t worthy of Ms. Parton, who many folks don’t realize is an amazingly gifted songwriter. Lately, she has dialed down the schmaltz, gone back to her blue-grass roots, and has been pretty much been hitting it out of the park on CD after CD.

Speaking of Golden Globes, Pierce Brosnan landed a nom for his work in Matador. He plays a villainous bisexual hit-man. Brosnan tells the NY Daily News, “We call [my character] Julian trisexual. He’ll try anything.” Yeah, cause bisexuals are just like that. Normally, I’d bitch and moan about yet another villainous, bisexual character, but I’m still abuzz with Brokeback euphoria so I’ll let it slide. This time.

Other gay-related films that received Golden Globe noms include Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Breakfast with Pluto, The Producers, and The Family Stone. Big-budget musical Rent was noticeably missing from the list.

THIS WEEK ON DVD
Actually, I’ve kind of dropped the ball on this topic the past couple of weeks and forgot to mention some darn good flicks that have been released in the last month. First up is Don RoosHappy Endings, which I thought was one of the best gay movies of the year. Also recently released is Heights with Glenn Close, James Marsden, and uber-hottie Jesse Bradford (I’m a Swimfan fan!). Actually out this week is Partners, a wacky, mistaken identity picture where a straight guy has to—ha ha!—pretend he’s gay. And finally, Wolfe Videos has Ice Men about a group of five Canadian friends who get together at a hunting lodge where much drama ensues. The film’s highlights include a hot tub scene with the hot guy nekkid. I know what you folks are really interested in.

Now I’ll shut up so you can have the BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER.

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Gay. Week. Ever., or read previous installments here.
